VBA Saving Help Please

! IDK IF THIS IS IMPORTANT, BUT I USE A MAC !
I'm sure this question has come up a lot, but my games wont save. I've tried to play Pokemon Emerald and Leaf Green (Emerald seemed to have worked until i quit out VBA and I was told that Leaf Green worked the best out of the series) i had originally saved in game in the options box, but after looking it up i was told to do the shift F1 method which still brings up the "Error battery save" problem. When i open the VBA folder, it seems fine, unless i was supposed to change anything, but i have my battery saves, save states, the VBA app itself. So if you could, PLEASE help me in what i'm doing wrong.
