Will using a VPN screw up my network

I know, a very noobish question to be sure, but the thing of it is, I want to install a VPN (in this case, Hotspot Shield) so I can access sites without those pesky Google bots gathering my personal information (and to download Super Smash Bros Brawl hacks without Mediafire getting stuck in an infinite download verification loop). My question is, with my home network being set up the way it is (main PC, two other PCs connected wirelessly), will installing a VPN mess up and/or interfere with the network connection in any way? I installed it, but I haven't started to use it yet. Is doing this safe? I would use proxies, but they're not secure at all. Being able to bypass the asinine Upload.to block would be a welcome addition.

If it's a Point to Point VPN, being as it's software, it should not affect the other two besides the normal network traffic. It will basically be a secure tunnel between your system and the other endpoint. The network will only see the vpn packets with the rest of the network traffic.

Depending on what the endpoint gateway supports, there are a few proprietary vpn clients. Cisco has it's own VPN client although it's deprecated from use on their modern network devices. You normally would pay for it, but it's available for install on most University websites and intranets. Shrewsoft is an open source VPN client.

There are others like Juniper and such.

Looks like Shrew.net's VPN, being a Point-to-point VPN, it would suit my needs perfectly. I'm sure it'll tell me the bandwidth limit.

I've used the ShrewSoft VPN client several times and it works very well

. I prefer it over the Cisco client, more lightweight and it doesn't require a reboot after installing.

I'm a total noob about VPN and my boss needed to watch Netflix here in DR, so I made him a small subscription of VPN Authority.
4 or 5 dollars a month I think.

A friend ask me how to setup a VPN to connect his home to his office.
I'm studying how to set up a PPTP VPN with linux centOS, it seems pretty easy, and on the windows machine, it already has the native client, both on XP and 7.
