I personally think you can't judge from a preview build comparing to others that already have several revisions and versions and also you need at least a touch enable screen to even try the metro UI in the way it should be used. however i will take your word until i test it by myself.

don't forget that both Android and iOS doesn't have a full OS in the background hence why am not expecting total smoothness just yet. if that were the case then MS would be light years ahead of the competition and that would be unreal. i don't know what hardware you used but a atom netbook is definitely underpowered in the gpu sector compared to Android/Ipad devices.

all in all i do agree with you but there is one point of your post i do not agree with... i personally don't think iOS is 1+ year ahead of Android specially after discovering that the upload button was just disabled as there is no file system... sincerly when i think about it and Android VS iOS i personally think is otherwise.
