Exclamation PSN hacked, down, compromised

Seems the whole PSN has been down for a few days now.
That also means no digital downloads for PSP-Go owners, among others.

Anon claims it wasnt its doing. Kinda lofty, given it promised Sony's infrastructure hell not too long ago.

PlayStation Network still down, Anonymous claims no involvement | Tech Gear News - Betanews

Quote:
As the outage of Sony's PlayStation Network entered into a third day without any end in sight -- and some reports indicate a cyberattack may be at fault -- at least one group is making sure that it is not blamed for the problem: Anonymous.

The group said that the mishap was due to internal issues with Sony's own servers, and those fingering Anonymous were "taking advantage of Anonymous' previous ill-will towards the company." A message to the company's PlayStation blog in Europe had said that Sony was investigating "the possibility of targeted behavior by an outside party," but since had been removed.

"Sony is incompetent... While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it," Anonymous wrote in a public statement.

Sony has provided little information on what may have caused the outage other than acknowledging issues beginning on Wednesday evening, and saying in a status update on Thursday that the issue could extend through the weekend. Either way, the complication cripples the gaming console for many.

Console applications like Netflix, MLB.tv, and others require a PSN login in order to function, and now are inoperable. This week also saw several highly anticipated games, with online play, released -- Mortal Kombat and SOCOM 4 to name two -- and the latter heavily leans on the PSN and online gameplay.

Obviously, PS3 owners are not happy, criticizing the company's silence on the cause, and slowness in getting it fixed. "SONY needs better engineers to secure the PSN," user 'Moeeed' wrote in the most recent blog post.

"Do you see now why online-only games are a really bad idea?" wrote another commenter 'SkyNet003.' "Offline single-player will never die, specially with things like this."

It was all planned people. What really happened though was that Sony and his crew took 4-20 too far and created a mayhem that took down the PSN. Since the Network was down, they decided, hey what the hell, the network is already down, let's keep it like that to save some trees. Woo-hoo, Earth Day! The End!

On a serious note though, I got to finish one of the games that I stopped playing. Playing offline gives users no challenge though.

You think theyd have an idea at the cause? All they ever see responsible for whatever PSN-related is Sony.
If it cant even guarantee some level of reliability and uptime, why is it even trying to push everyone to go digital-only?

In anyway, anon promised to go nuclear on it after PSN gets back.

Waaaah a stupid idea just came to my mind which I need to tell because I got nothing better to do at 1 am in the night.

Iīve noticed that after people got pissed off at Sony over all the dilemmas with the PSJailbreak and their court cases that now since Anonymous has shown up people are getting pissed off by Anonymous and am sort of forgetting that they were pissed off by Sony previously and they want their PS3 with PSN work like before. So what if Anonymous is actually a Sony strategy to get consumers pissed off by supposedly hackers?

I canīt believe what a genious I am. Soon you all will be mine muahaha.

(and maybe I am too hired by Sony...or am I)...Not

I really feel stupid now after typing this. Goes sleeping now...

Yeah, I've considered that possible scenario too.

1.) PS3 gets hacked.
2.) Sony gets upset and presses charges.
3.) Some of the fan base (Anonymous) gets upset and launches a DDOS attack.
4.) Anonymous upsets the other potion of the fan base; Sony takes notice.
5.) Sony blames PSN downtime on a direct security breach, giving them rights to seek legal action against Anonymous. (FBI and various cyber-security agencies will be more inclined to take action.)

You guys are hilarious !

Keep the 'Sony is evil and deliberately shut down the network to blame the hackers" theories going they are absolute gold. Wow , I am getting too old for this place , you kids make me laugh.

Do you know how much this is costing Sony in downtime ? Lost purchases ? credibility in the market place ( consumers as well as publishers )..... But nooooo , they are deliberately shutting down the network to make all the hackers look bad.... btw you guys who have a CFW PS3 , you are not hackers fellas - any moron can download a file and run it. Even the Wii required more 'skillz' than the PS3.

Back to your compilers boys!

Critical data is also stored on PSN. Digital certificates, banking/credit card data among others.
For all you know, backdoors got planted and critical data already pilfered for use in later attacks on the infrastructure, or for publishing sony's whole email databases on bittorent like was done with HBgary.

Oh I don't know, no one has been able to buy anything from the psn for 5 days........................you realize how much money they make in micro transactions? :|

Whats getting me is some people here lambasting sony as a bunch of dip****s and then crediting them with the intelligence to scheme and manipulate the situation........................
