Is anyone using dscaler to play ps2?

First off, I would like to say that this is a great forum. I read a couple of threads and found them very interesting. Since there seems to be a lot of experienced gamers here I wanted to ask a question about playing ps2 on a computer monitor or lcd tv.

So my question is:

Is there anyone who is currently using dscaler and an external tv card to play their ps2 games? If so what do you think of the image quality (versus sdtv using component cables).

Also, is it very difficult to configure for someone who has never used dscaler software before.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Before you hook it up to a LCD TV make sure you have a really nice graphic card. I'm not sure if the LCD TV can handle high fps like 100+

So you want to know if high quality cable (HDMI, S-video,YPBPR, DVI, ect..) would make a difference in the video quality?

Well, i have a 32in HD LCD TV from ViewSonic and it native resolution is 1360x768 @60Hz (max! May affect/slow down the high fps PCSX2

). Lower resolution can give higher refresh rate

. Anyway, thanks to HD LCD TV Window Xp have never looked so crisp and clear!. So yeah, even a DVI cable can give you great quality. HDMI is even better XD but a little costly...

Thanks for replying, but I was actually asking about using my ps2 console by hooking it up to my computer via a tv card ( not using a emulator ). I did a bit of research for the past hour in these forums and it looks like people are getting good results using Dscalar.

Since, I've already downloaded Dscalar now all I need is a tv tuner card. I want to get an external one since I might be upgrading my computer soon.

Could anyone suggest an external tv tuner card, preferable under $50? I want to get the same kind of picture quality that "Industrian" is getting. His metal gear screen shots were awsome!!

I use Winfast TV 2000 XP deluxe... works quite good, but it's internal tv tuner... anyways be sure to get s-video cable

I used to use Dscaler but it is crappy.It looks great on the WinTV software that come with my TV card.

My TV-in card wasn't the cheapest.

Kazuya may be able to recommend a cheaper alternative since he gave me the proper Dscaler settings in the first place. With that said I once used the MSI TV @nywhere Master and I thought it was quite alright.

i use dscaler and my TVcard to play console games... i found a way how to get a better image quality using filters(image quality is better then the original on the TV). if you want my settings i can give it to you.

note the dscaler standard settings aren´t great at all... so you will need to change some things in order to get a better image quality.

You see I recently bought an lcd tv (it has composite, s-video, and component input) and was hoping to get really great picture quality from my ps2 but I was dissapointed with the poor image quality. From what I read online, the ps2 wasn't meant for hdtv. So I was thinking of just buying a good sized sdtv and using the component cables (which I heard looks pretty good). That's when I discovered this site and learned that all of you guys were having success playing ps2 on your computer monitors.

So it's a good thing I held out a while and didn't return it right away. Hopefully I'll find a solution before christmas.

BTW, where's a good place to buy a tv card internal/external besides online?

Terratec Cinergy 400 TVcard.

first of all set your pixel width to 768 then in the Miscellaneous settings
deactivate the Adaptive comb filter

in the filter menu activate this 3 filters

gamma
sharpness
noise reduction(adaptive)

now goto filter settings and set this values to the gamma filter
gamma =960
white level =190

the sharpness filter doesn´t need to be configured

now in the noise reduction filter:
noise reduction = 38
Stability = -46

Right now I am using my Nvidia WDM capture driver to play PS2 games on my PC, for me I turned down the contrast and raised the gamma, every time it takes some adjusting as the capture quality sometimes varies.

i don´t know probably is my TVcard but i get a sharper and better image with Video(Greedy,High Motion)... btw am using DScaler for now untill i finish my all in one application... the @ruantec A.E.S!

As for my capture card, it's just a cheapo Winfast TV 2000 XP. That's probably why I get no difference. Then again, that was when I was using composite cables. I've recently bought an S-Video cable, so I'll have to see how that works out.

it depends on your console...for example the gamecube doesn´t support S-Video as far as i know.. so the best way is using composite.. another example is the PS2 or xbox both support S-Video.

if your console doesn´t support S-Video then you will have to use composite instead to get better image results.
