Smile 2GB versus 4GB memory?

I'm building a new computer soon and I was wondering whether an increase from 2GB to 4GB of 800 MHz memory (dual channel) would give me any increase in PCSX2? (specifically ffx, i guess?)

Thanks

4Gb is a bit of an excess, not many apps would benifit from it that much, althoguh it depends on what app. As for pcsx2, 2Gb would suffice IMO.

1Gb is ample for the emulator, any more is just wasted

Funny how nothing was said about getting FASTER RAM or dualcore CPUs.
Try getting Corsair, Mushkin or Kingston RAM if you can.

Unless you have a 64bit OS, then more than 3 GB works like a charm.

As long as PCSX2 runs you have enough RAM.

For Windows, as others have said, 32bit Windows can only use 3.1Gb. You need 64bit Windows to use more. Linux has a similar limitation (at the process level), though 64bit Linux tends to have more mature drivers in my experience.

This is the best RAM there is - Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail
Stay away from Corsair and OCZ.

But the most important thing in PCSX2 is the CPU. Make sure you buy an E6420/E6600 and overclock to at least 3.2Ghz.

I dunno, I bought some of this stuff, and it works great. Good timings and good price.

I second the Geil memory, it's pretty awesome

As for OCZ, saying it sucks for overclocking is stupid. Either buy ram rated for the speeds you want to use, or don't, but don't complain that the DDR800 you bought can't do 1000MHz.

It's not the brand that makes it good for overclocking. It's what kind of chip the manufacturer used. Micron D9 are the best far as ddr2 goes.

Gskill HZ series are Micron D9GMH

Afaik the reviews on the ram I bought were great I always read up on what I'm buying.. Atleast 5 or 6 people said its a good overclocker! Now what does that tell you? Please don't try and pretend you know about something that you clearly don't!

Oh man I get so sick and tired of these kinda replies! You are not helping the orginal poster in anyway with this kind of post

Now to answer the orignal question I beleive 2gb is more than enough though if You can afford it and use an X64 OS go for 4gb. I'm gonna stick with 2gb for now
