Sony PS2 Slide Card

I'm sure some of you have heard about this thing, I nearly got one off ebay for half the price, but they took it down as modchips ect are not allowed. I was wondering if they are worth a shet. Do they work well? Does it make any visiable damage to the system? Is the damage reverceable? Where do babies come from? Will it void my warrenty? Thanks in advanced.

Perfect timing with the babies thing. Become a comedian.

Um, and I don't know... the answer to your real question.

I'll consider it, but that was somewhat a fluke

The Slidecard is a simply way to play backuped ps2games.
I own one. And this thing works really fine. You have to remove the front blend of the dvd drive, but if you are careful you can add the frontblend later again, so you wont loose your warranty. But everytime you want to play a game you have to boot from swap magic and open the dvd drive manually(without the buttons). It nerves, but works =)

So it's a way to play illegal games? Wonder why this thread hasn't been closed so far.

not "illegal" games. Just a way to actually play your legal backups on a PS2 without voiding your warranty

why would people want to play backups of there PS2 games?
is it because they are worried about the origional wearing out?
or is it so they can play them when they have "loaned" the game to a friend?

maybe they have a little brother who likes to step on things? Modchips and other work-arounds are actually designed to play your backup copies in case your original dies from scratches, children, or nuclear blasts. They just happen to be seen in a bad light as pirate aids.

Backups or rather "imports" seems like a much legitimate word.

I think this slidecard is too much of a fuss to use. Modchips tend to give better results. I will not further comment as they are not allowed to be talked here.

Modchips are not allowed to be talked about? Well if this is a problem, I'm sure a mod will close this post, sorry in advanced if it is, but one) my brother $%#@'s disks up, I've had to buy 3 replacements for my PS, and that thing was a god at reading scrached disks compaired to my PS2. And B) I like to try a game before I buy it, and I'm not willing to pay $5 per game at Blockbuster just to find out a game sucks.

LuZi, does it do any long/short term damage to the PS2? I remember the swap trick for the PS required you to take the disk out wile it was still spinning.

Edit:
Fawad: I want to keep my warrenty intact as I payed $20 for an extra year (I got it used am afraid that the lense will go out on me, it is a version 3, are those one's known for bad lenses?)

See, what you just said there, is that you download games to play on your machine (hence, ILLEGAL), and that, is why it is not allowed to be discussed here, because it is mainly used for illegal purposes. Such as this case.

Heh. I got my system chipped after exactly 90 days, and it has been over two years. It is still working just like new. I have a V5 in case you're wondering.

I think that we should just end this discussion right here.

Of course it could damage your drive. You see, The DVD Drive has no protection, so the dust is really a problem(so it shouldn't stand near the floor(Boden, heißt das so auf englisch???) and of course you have to be careful when you open the drive, you have to do it slow and you should not rup extremely. It has always worked for me and i use this thing since october 2003.

Ah see, V5, does anyone have/had a a V3 go out on them? (V3 have 8 scerws on the base and 2 on the top base(?) for a total of 10, the Serial Number begins with U2, and the Date Code is 0D, and bios is 30001)

btw, does this thing work on the white PS2 that is bundled with GT4?

I actualy have one of these.
I purchased the original PS2 and had it chipped about 6 months later to play imports, but as it was an early chip, it was really no different to the slide card method.
The Slide card method is actualy more reliable for me, and as it doesn't require dissasembling the PS2 to use it.....
I'd suggest you search for the website of this tool to check out it's compatibility.

Well, if you can afford it/do it, I do recommend soldering a real chip in it. There are also no solder mods which work real well (I use it on on my of PS2's). The no solder mods still require swapping, but you don't have to screw around with a slide card.

Hmm.. great caution should be taken with those that require lots of wires to be installed (17+), a steady hand is required as well as a low-wattage, fine tipped iron! In short, 10x harder than soldering in a ps1 mod. Best to get someone else to do it, or take it into a shop... that does modchips. I had a dead ps2 come in the other week - guy had killed it due to breaking two pins of a chip on the board.
