Is your desktop colour depth also set to 32bit?
That worked for a freind of mine anyway.
Did you try a direct 3d driver?
I can get around 40fps on ff9 with my pII 333mhz, 80 mb of ram with a 4mb ati card.
edit:Are you using an iso?I usually get an extra 10fps with an iso.

Yes, my desktop clour depth is set to 32bit either...
Direct 3d driver...!? GeForce boards are better as OpenGL if you don't know...
And yes, I'm using an ISO...

if you're using the latest nVidia drivers, that might be the reason... on my P3 850 w/ GeForce 2 GTS, the framerate went down to half when I installed them, so I went back to the 45.23 version.

well for one....the 5200 aint much better than a GF3 anyway. turn OFF frameskipping.....or just do these settings: (which turn off fs anyway). also make sure that AA (anti aliasing) and AF (anisotropic filtering) are off.

The config he gave is ok but i would consider turning off the mask bit and enable filtering to 4, maybe 6. The best drivers for your card are the 4403.

Uhhh... I think the 5200 is actualy a fair bit slower than a normal geForce3. At most it'd be on a par with the Ti200.
I think you must have enabled FSAA to have thes kind of probs tho.

for the gf3, there are 3 differenet variations.

gf3 ti500 (the fastest gf3), geforce 3, and gf3 ti200 (the slowest gf3)

The geFoce 3 was released first, then ~6 months down the line, they released the slightly castrated and the beefed up versions, the ti200 and the ti500 respectively.

a soundcard will free you up just a bit, as it will be hardware accelerating the sound (and thus not taking up CPU space) but honestly i dont think you would notice much of a difference.
