Smile Old School Arcade Gaming

For those of you who are still interested in or still enjoy playing "yesterday's" arcade classics, have I got news for you. At least I hope it's news. It was to me anyway. Anyhow, Midway has just released for the X-Box and PS2 (the GameCube version is coming soon) a collection of Arcade classics called Midway Arcade Treasures. It contains over 20 of some of the best Arcade games made.
In this collection you'll find games like Gauntlet (my favorite), Paperboy, Klax, RoadBlasters and Root Beer Tapper. These are just some of the games, there are still plenty more in here. These are the original arcade editions and they look and play just great. I have both the X-Box and PS2 versions and I plan to get the GC one when it is available. The other great thing about this collection is the price only $19.99 (US dollars) brand new. So for those of you who still love the old arcade "classics", this just might be the collection you're looking for.
sincerely,
sx/amiga

Re: Old School Arcade Gaming

Paperboy!! I used to play it on my NES. And Klax is a nice game also. I also played Gauntlet emulated.
I think those are some real good games. At least addicting. But that's with most of the old games.

Re: Old School Arcade Gaming

Good ol' times. I remember playing those games in real arcade machines when I was much younger. Too bad I have no next-gen system

Anyway, I see that you're a real Gauntlet fan, sxamiga, because you're always talking about this game

Re: Old School Arcade Gaming

Yes, I most certainly am an enormous Gauntlet fan. I have Gauntlet and Gauntlet II for mame, Gauntlet IV for Genesis, Gauntlet and Gauntlet II for NES, Gauntlet II for GB (original cartridge), Gauntlet and Gauntlet Legends for PSX, Gauntlet Legends for DreamCast, and Gauntlet Dark Legacy for PS2, GameCube, X-Box, and GBA SP. I also have Gauntlet on the master system and Gauntlet and Gauntlet II on C-64 and now Gauntlet for X-Box and PS2. So I ask you, am a Gauntlet fan or am I a Gauntlet fan?
sincerely,
sx/amiga

Wow, pretty good collection of Gauntlet games. And it's amazing that you have it for all plataforms available. Without doubt the biggest Gauntlet fan out there

I'm just curious sxamiga and it's not meant as anything bad, but why are you getting three versions of the same game? Do they have something different in each console or is it all the same?

More power to you if you say "Because I can!"

prolly the same reason(s) why I have NFS 1 to 5 on both PC and PS;
small differences, collectors purposes, ability to play them in 'different ways'....

Re: Old School Arcade Gaming

...my kind of thread.

...there are -too- many old arcade games I've played and are worth mentioning, and Gauntlet is certainly one of them. I loved it (and its sequel) at the arcades and proceeded to buy it for my CPC and later for my Amiga.
I also played it when I started messing with emulation more seriously and I still keep one of my first emulators, "MGE" (Multi-Gauntlet-Emulator), from back in the days when Gauntlet wasn't (yet) playable in MAME.

Of course, that's nothing compared to the extent of sxamiga's passion for that game - a passion that is perfectly understandable to me, since I have a similar "thing" for Elite.

Re: Old School Arcade Gaming

The "color" part is just a minimum detail... I started my days on the C64 with a phosphorus orange monitor... really bad days... when I got the color monitor the first thing I did was to play Paperboy to see how great it looked in colors... only thing I can say is that I wasn't dissapointed

Re: Old School Arcade Gaming

Not quite... games like Castle, Tetris as well as most isometric games (can't recall names now) were more pleasant to the eyes on an orange & black monitor, IMO at least (and yes, those games on my color monitor dissapointed me... maybe it has something to do with the low use of colours)...
