N64 Emulation Satisfaction

Im new to the N64 emulation scene (but not new to emulation). Im having trouble getting about 50% of the games to run properly (the 50% I want to play). Perfect Dark, Pokemon Stadium2, Wetrix,Guantlet Legends and Mario party to name a few.

I have downloaded the latest PJ64 (1.5) and I have the following Emulators also

Nemu 8
mupen640.1
Ultrahle2064
Ultrahle
Corn
1964 0851
Suprahle (?) spelling may be wrong their.

I have a whole host of plugins that I got down for GPU, SPU, Glide and input.

Some examples of the problems I am experiencing are PS2 (incorrect graphics appearing in boxes and poor text quality) I did note that PJ64 states this rom has grahics issues (would a plugin fix this ?)
Wetrix - the menu graphics are buggy and the game runs too fast.
Gauntlet legends - The game runs at 4fps.

I wont waffle on about what is wrong with all of them though.

My sys specs are

AMD 1.2ghz
Geforce 3 Ti200 (latest WinXP whql drivers)
SB Live Value (latest Unidriver pack)
Win XP Pro SP1 With all the latest updates.
Direct X 9
I own a Gravis Eliminator Gamepad which works great.

Do you guys have any plugin/Emulation suggestions to get the most from the emultor?

Which one do you recommend...I have so far found Pj64 1.4 and 1.5 to work well.

Thanks for any help !

O.K. here are some answers. I have broken them down into easy-to read sections (I'm a perfectionist)

>Perfect Dark

This game is, sadly, known to be slow. Not much you can do there unless you have a really slick processor.

>Pokemon Stadium2

AFAIK (I don't have this ROM) this game is also known to be slightly slow, and messed up. You might want to try using emulated Glide (d/load evoodoo the glide wrapper and use it paired with the Glide64 plugin) as in my experience it runs EVERYTHING a lot faster, even when using a wrapper and a not a original 3DFX card with native glide (if you can't get evoodoo to work, there is a thread 'evoodoo how to' somewhere around here).

>Wetrix

Hmmm. I don't really know about this one either (I do know that the game isn't that great, you're not missing much), but you might want to try a OpenGL plugin for this one. With it running too fast, try changing the 'counter-factor' (under ROM settings) or try enabling speed limitation (F4) if it is disabled. Please tell me how this one works out, I'm very curious as I have heard absolutely *nothing* about it compatibility and speed-wise.

>Guantlet Legends

Again, known to be slow... Try using Glide64 with this one also. With evoodoo, trust me, it really is faster than any other plugin in most circumstances (at least on my GeForce 2), even when using a glide wrapper. Try it and you will see what I mean, it is a not-very-well-known to non-3DFX owners yet EXTREMELY useful plugin.

>Mario party

This game should work just fine. You didn't mention what problems you are having with it, what are they?

(Other than that you did a GREAT job of posting By the way, I really love it when someone is very thourough in all the information that they give, thanks )

>Do you guys have any plugin/Emulation suggestions to get the
>most from the emultor?

Yes, use Project 64, 1964, and Nemu64 for best performance and compatibility (I like PJ64 the best, but the other two are definetely worth having around in case PJ doesn't work perfectly). USe Jabo's D3D plugins with your GeForce 3 with games that have no problems, and try using Glide64 0.41 (with evoodoo for your Nvidia GeForce 3, it cannot use glide without the glide-wrapper), Daedalus Graphics, and TR64 OpenGL for games that you are experienceing problems with. Use a combination of Jabos DirectSound, and Azimer's various Audio plugin depending on which ones give best performance on a game-basis. Use N-Rage's input plugin for controllers.

Everything I have mentioned is available from
www.ngemu.com/n64
IF you cannot find any of these thigns just post again and someone will direct you

Good Luck, and please post back here with the results of these suggestions.

Take care  .

THANK YOU!, it feels really good to be thanked like that (and to receive a nice response to help given, especially when advice is somewhat-useful)

Good luck with that, and feel free to ask more questions here

To each his own, I usually don't go for puzzlers. BTW, I didn't know that there was a PC version...

I have the PC version of wetrix aswell (my wife plays it) I prefer the N64 version though.

I tried the Glide64 plugin with the evoodooxp wrapper, I had and evoodoo and an evoodooxp version. The evoodooxp zip file had a glide2x and a glide 3x.dll in it so I used that one.

It didnt help much when I tried it last night I am going to try and track down that evoodoo how to... thread and see if that helps me configure it correctly.

I got gauntlet legends running at an accaptable frame rate using a build of 1964 (I cant remeber which one ) and using the unofficial Daedelus (?) plugin that came packaged with it but the graphics are still very buggy.

Pokemon Stadium performed best using the standard GPU plugin for PJ64 1.5.

I will keep trying combos of plugins with different builds of emus but any further help is appreciated.

O.K. also try these following plugins in combination with 1964 and PJ64 (w/Glide, I juts realized that NGEMU has only the oldest Glide64 plug, the newest on is from the news section, the newest one might be better) :

http://www.ngemu.com/n64/plugins/gpu...ogl_v0.8.6.zip (Newest TR64 OpenGL plugin)
http://www.ngemu.com/n64/glide64/glide64_041.zip (Newest Glide64 Plugin)

I'm glad that you got Gauntlet Legends runningsmoothly

Here is the 'evoodoo how to' thread (it is pretty simple, and if you already got it working than you don't need to read this

http://www.ngemu.com/forums/showthre...469#post484955

Also note that the glide3x.dll might be in uppercase, if it is than change it to lowercase (noone but me has ever seen this apparently).

The unnoficial Daedalus that you are using isn't the newest one... I am trying to find it for you and will link it up also. *AH* here it is. After much searching I found it

http://www.emutalk.net/attachment.php?postid=130511

(and on another forum too... how terrible )

try these things out and tell me how it works out Good Luck.

Take Care.

Thanks again for the tips and links, I forgot to mention I got Gauntlet legends running with no sound

I will try out those updated plugins and see what results I get.

Are any of the N64 emulators still being worked on (that you know off) ?
