Communications error

I am trying to trade my Graveler so it can evolve, but I keep getting this error. I have tried every vbalink version (1.8 beta, 1.7.2, 1.7.3, etc) to no avail. Tried every link timeout numbers I could think of and still nothing. Anyone know how I can fix it? I am running Pokemon Emerald.

Specs of comp:
i5-2500k
Gigabyte UD3H-B3 Z68 MOBO
Radeon 7950
8GB DDR3 RAM

EDIT: I am using the single computer option. I set the save type to 128kb and unchecked the pause when inactive but it still failed.
