VBA SRW-OG problems

My computer used to run the emulator at 97-99%, but now only runs at 47%, or 16% if full screen. The hardware hasn't changed at all. Why is this? I had to reinstall Windows XP, if that's any help. It also runs perfectly fine on my other computer, which is on Windows 7.

Hardware specs:
Dell DM051 / Dimension 5150
BIOS: AO4
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz
RAM: 2.5GB DDRZ
Motherboard: Dell OWG261
Chipset: Intel :945G/GZ
Network card: Intel 828OIG

The problem must be in the software. I updated my DirectX to version 9.0 to see if that was the problem, but nothing changed. Why doesn't it play properly?

Be sure all your other drivers, particularly graphics and sound card, are up-to-date as well.

I'm using VBA 1.7.2. Is that an issue?

Shouldn't be, but you can get 1.8.0 anyway.

1.8.0? I looked on the site and the most recent version is 1.7.2.

EDIT: I found and downloaded 1.8.0 beta3, and it works at 41% fullscreen - windowed mode is 97%, but then the window is tiny.
