VBA 1.7.4 Mac controller issue

Okay, so I've had this issue a couple of times where VBA doesn't seem to respond to my PS3 controller when I try configure the controls through the "Configure Keys" option, but somehow, miraculously, I was able to get it to work last time I had this problem, in which I have no idea what I did to get to work either, but this time it doesn't seem I'm going to be as lucky. So, any idea what I might be doing wrong? Or is there something I not doing at all? Help will be greatly appreciated.
