Assassin's Creed 3 information!

Here we go, fellow Creed fans. We finally have information about the game and we should know more here in the very near future.

Quote:
Earlier today, Ubisoft unveiled the box art for for the latest entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise (seen above) on the game’s Facebook page, giving us the first taste of what we can expect from the Ezio-less sequel later this year. Shortly thereafter, Game Informer released the first official images from Assassin’s Creed 3 (see to the side and below), further hinting at what we can expect.

The images place the time frame of the next game to be during the American Revolution, and the action suggests that the main character will be fighting against the British. All of which just confirms the rumors that have been floating around for months.

Of course, the rumors of an American Revolutionary setting were just a few out of many. It was also rumored that the game may be set in Ancient Egypt, Victorian England, and Imperialist China to name just a few. One of rumors had to be true.

But taking what we know about the image and comparing it with the rest of the series, we can make a few more educated guesses as to what we can expect when the game is released (probably in November like that previous games in the series were, but that is unconfirmed).

The weaponry that the assassin is carrying suggests a Native American connection, possibly a Native American heritage. Due to the association between Desmond—who will be a major focus of AC3—the protagonist would need to be a continuation of the European bloodline in order to establish a genetic connection with Desmond, so the character may be half Native American. If so, that introduces some interesting story possibilities. Altair was already an accepted and high standing assassin when the original game began, while Ezio was born into nobility. If the game tries to keep somewhat historically accurate, then the protagonist would deal with at least some racial discrimination. The main character could always just have trained with Native Americans, but that would still lead to some possible conflicts on how other Europeans treated the indigenous people.

Although the image shows a battlefield, the game will likely stick to either multiple cities or a single massive city. Following the previous games’ focus on one major city (Rome and Constantinople respectively), it makes sense that Ubisoft would want to shake thing up a bit and return to the multiple city format. Besides, the American Revolution was fought across the Eastern Seaboard. It would be a bit disappointing if the game chose to narrow the scope. It seems far more likely that the game would feature the major cities of the time, including Philadelphia, New York, Boston, and possibly a few other locations.

Assassin’s Creed loves to use historical figures in the game, and AC3 will certainly follow suit. The question is who will they use? In the previous games, the protagonist inevitably crossed paths with the person that historically ruled whatever city. It seems like a near certainty that the Founding Fathers will make an appearance, probably several of them. The most obvious that come to mind would be Ben Franklin, who could easily take the spot of Da Vinci as a gadget maker for the protagonist, and George Washington, who would arguably be the single most important figure of the Revolutionary War (and who may be the American soldier in the image below, but that is just a guess). Incorporating Thomas Jefferson also just feels right, and others will certainly be mentioned, if not featured.

Of course, all of this is nothing more than guesswork—hopefully educated guesswork–but it is not based on anything more than the cover art.

The Assassin’s Creed 3 Facebook page is promising a major reveal over the weekend, so hopefully we will know more soon. Until then, do you think our guesses make sense? Are we way off the mark? We’ll know soon enough, but for now sound off in the comment section below let us know what you think!

Update: Let it never be said that I cannot admit when I am wrong. Kudos to DaveTehWave for correctly pointing out that Assassin’s Creed 3 will actually be released on October 30, not November as I incorrectly assumed. And cheers to Aj Snyder for correctly pointing out that Ubisoft has confirmed that Ezio and Altair are from different bloodlines that converged later in Desmond.

Here's a pic! Thoughts?

Since you know how much I hate this series and my distaste for Ubisoft, I won't say anything further.

Spoiler:
Now that Spyhop's gone, someone has to b@#$% about random overrated games.

I dont want to live in this era anymore.

When will this AC madness stop? Next episode in post-medieval japan, with ninjas, samurais and western traders for good measure?

Hey if the protagonist is a something along Ayane or Kasumi that might actually make it interesting, though i would set it up in future tokyo ninja vs robo geisha for the lolz.

Ubisoft is dead to me, they can sod off. I don't even feel like pirating their games, let alone buying them.

That. The constant-online thing is a huge turn-off.
Heck, even Command and Conquer 4 was pushing it very far, forcing ingame logging to EA accounts before you can even play.

^ This is why non-casual PC commercial gaming is pretty much dead to me. Console gaming isn't any better. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm SERIOUSLY losing interest in the gaming scene. The only games that hold my interest are last gen and retro console games, pre-2007 PC games and casual games for mobile phones and XBLA.

The industry (thanks to greedy American game companies; yes, I said it) is mostly a wasteland full of games only aimed at being profitable using overrated gfx.

AC was incredibly interesting when it was a planned Trilogy...but when it became a cash cow...well a $60 a pop never-ending story isn't exactly my idea of a good game or series. I mean with a Trilogy you're paying for a huge chunk of the story every time (Mass Effect)...but for a series that was originally planned to be a Trilogy but is now continuing on indefinitely I don't know what I'm paying for anymore other than an extension purely for the sake of money greed.

And until I manage to get my hands on Brotherhood (and then Revelations) I can't even think about playing this game anyways.

Also from the article:

Quote:
and George Washington, who would arguably be the single most important figure of the Revolutionary War (and who may be the American soldier in the image below, but that is just a guess)
What?

Umm Mass Effect is in the same boat, they are doing more Mass Effect games beyond the trilogy because of popularity and sales, sure it have the same protagonist but hey that is what Assassin's Creed 3 is doing.... Also I don't get having trilogies for gaming, it wont be just a trilogy if the franchise sells well and the sequels are just the same game as before with a few significant changes but charge full price...

I miss the good old half life days where there were good mods that out shines any sequel as its content differs to the original game and they were free...

At least the Trilogy will be complete...AC is still very much incomplete.

I don't mind game Trilogies, they're so much richer usually than single games especially these days. I'd certainly much rather have a stand-alone sequel than tons of DLC and then some half-hearted sequel.

Besides look at what happened when BioWare weren't doing a Trilogy and rather a sequel...look at DAO VS DA2...they screwed it up.

Hmm, I actually like the direction they're taking... Sounds pretty awesome. Although, the china or japan thing would've been cool too. Japan with shinobis would've fit right in with the game style.

And on the Ubisoft thing, who the hell buys AC for PC anyways? You're gonna have to use a pad to play the game anyways and you'll have to put up with Ubisoft douchebaggery so why!?!

I've only used trainers, twice... Never understood what's the big idea, and on those two times I got annoyed because the gameplay simply sucked. But AC is so easy after getting hang of it, so why would you use trainers on it.
