Save states question

ok this ? has probably already been asked a million times but here goes #1,000,001.

When saving a game, do those saves overwrite the saves from OTHER games already in the same slot?

For instance, let's say I have 3 games. They are:
.hack//G.U. v1 (GU1)
Resident Evil 4 (RE4)
Gran Turismo 3 (GT3)

There are 9 save slots available on PCSX2 0.9.7.

Let's say I was playing & had 8 of the slots filled up, like this:
Slot 1 RE4
Slot 2 RE4
Slot 3 GU1
Slot 4 GT3
Slot 5 --EMPTY--
Slot 5 GU1
Slot 6 RE4
Slot 7 GU1
Slot 8 GT3
Slot 9 RE4

Now of course Slot 5 is where to save it. But next time around, I'm
playing one of the games & want to save. What happens when I
overwrite one of the existing slots? Are the slots game-specific?
(meaning that all 9 slots are reserved for each game) or are they
general, meaning that once an existing save from another game
(the one not being played) is overwriten, that save is lost?

Is there a utility for PCSX2 that lets someone keep track of their
save slots? Or should us intelligent gamers (LOL not me) just keep
notes of the games saved to?

Save states are per game...every save state have the game crc so it's impossible one game to overwrite a save state for other game.
Or to say it with other words, every game have 9 save states slots available.
