Pokemon Platinum issues
I've read a bunch of threads on here and have been searching for many hours on other sites for information that may help me, but I have been unable to find anything so far. I downloaded version 2.6a of NO$GBA yesterday, along with a pokemon platinum rom. The game itself plays perfectly fine, yesterday I got to the 4th gym but had to restart my computer for some updates, I thought the save/load snapshot feature was how you saved games, so I saved a snapshot and shut down. I realized today that I was completely wrong and that only works for GBA games, so I reluctantly started a new game, and saved through the in-game menu as I would if I were playing it on my DS. My .NDS file is in the Battery folder of the NO$GBA folder, which is where the .sav's are saved to. My rom is named "Pokemon Platinum (U).nds", so I downloaded the default.sav (512kb) posted in another thread on this site and renamed it to "Pokemon Platinum (U).sav" and deposited it in the Battery folder. I also changed the "NDS-Cartridge Media Backup" to "Flash 512KBytes" and reset the cartridge. I played as normal, got a bit further than I had yesterday, saving infrequently, but enough that if my emulator crashed, I wouldn't lose too much progress. I went out with my friends to eat dinner, so I saved the game a final time, and then I quit NO$GBA by clicking on the File menu and selecting "quit" I got back to discover that my game will not load the .sav file, it forces me to restart the entire game. As an experiment, I deleted the .sav file I had downloaded earlier, leaving no .sav files in the Battery folder, and started a new game. I saved through the menu as soon as I was able to access it, and no .sav appeared after it was done saving. Basically, I had the backup media set to 512 KB, before I started the game, I had a .sav file with the same name as the rom in the Battery folder before I started, I saved within the game correctly, and I closed the emulator correctly, but my game still will not save or load .sav's correctly. Can anyone help me find out what is going wrong? Thanks for any help. EDIT: Nevermind, I got it to work =DDDDDDDDD Instead of resetting the cartridge after fixing the controls and emulation settings (save setting), I re-opened it, and started a new game, saved as soon as I could, and then re-opened the game again and it updated the save file correctly AND let me load it. Now I can actually play it without having to leave it open forever. Last edited by Chris3356; July 19th, 2010 at 00:25.. |

Well, apparently you can't read correctly because I no longer need any help, but thanks anyway, jackass. If their site would let me buy it, I would have, I don't mind paying for software. It's not my fault that it's broken. As for the ROM, I don't even know how I would get one legally (Do you have to like rip it from a DS cartridge?) although, if you told me how, I would gladly do it.

Yeah basically all you need is your DS and the game and a Flash cart. There are quite a few guides like this one. Hope that helped

Okay, thank you. I'm assuming that is also the only way to rip the .sav from your cartridge? If that is also do-able through the same method that would be very awesome as I have a lot of DS games with progress on that I would love to be able to play on my PC (DS touch screen is broken and I haven't bothered fixing it and probably won't for quite some time) Which of the flash carts mentioned in that article are best? Or does it not really matter which one you buy? |

AFIAK The CycloDS Evolution is easier to use and the firmware is easier to update and it works right out of the box, whereas the R4 requires you to download and install software. But I don't think overall there is a big difference, just the price I guess. EDIT: You can check this thread out at GBATemp for more info.
