Re: Key Configuration?

If you're talking about the release by Cal2 of Virtual Jaguar WIP that you downloaded from Potato Emulation, then you're asking in the wrong place. We develop an emulator called Virtual Jaguar GCC/SDL Portable Jaguar Emulator whose homepage is found at http://icculus.org/virtualjaguar. If you have questions about that emulator that are not answered in the README, WHATSNEW or TODO files, feel free to post them here.

Re: Key Configuration?

Yeah, that one (vj-0.8) is Cal2's closed source WIP version--we work on a different version (next available will be 1.0.7). If you didn't get it from the Potato Emulation website, then you should go there if you're having problems with it, since he has forums set up on the main page (and you don't even need to create an account to post). Here's the address:

Re: Key Configuration?

Cal2's emulater has a link that takes you here.. so thats why i posted..

i want to use your emulator because the other one only has a tiny screen and i cant figure out how to make it bigger..? plus most of the games dont work for very long ..but on yours most of the games crash on my pc.. must be because i didnt configure it ..?(or does it do it on everyones pc with this version)

sorry for all the questions im just looking forward to the final version..

you might not need anyone (or care) but if theres any kind of testing (not sure how you go about it)
for bugs etc. i could help you out. . . i have alot of free time on my hands..and i have a whole bunch of games(roms) for the jag..........

Re: Key Configuration?

If you set it up correctly, you should be able to simply double click on the executable and it will come up with a file selector from which you can select the game you want to play. I.e., create a subdirectory called ROMs that lives at the same level as the VJ executable and put your ROM images there. You can edit a few options in the vj.cfg file such as whether or not to use the DSP, plus some others.

Re: Key Configuration?

it works! sweet!.. thats why i couldnt get it to work .. i didnt even realize there was no rom folder there...most emulators open and then you can choose load rom through the menu at the top...its a liitle different .. cool..

i turned opengl off , dsp off and pipelined dsp off..

it seems to run at best on my computer with these settings...i tryed them all different ways... What is pipelined dsp ..?i know the dsp is for sound but with pipelined dsp theres no sound ... so how does it work...?

Re: Key Configuration?

There was a good explanation of what the pipelined DSP is and why is was necessary in a thread on this forum, but it seems to have disappeared into the ether. If I had known that would happen, I would have archived them myself. I think I should take all such technical explanations and put them on the official website in the future...

At the moment there are two DSP cores--one that is pipelined and one that is not. The DSP switch sets the DSP core on and the pipeline switch selects the pipelined version of the DSP core (otherwise, it uses the non-pipelined DSP core). In a nutshell, there are some games that rely on the effects of a pipelined CPU like the GPU and DSP are in a real Jaguar and so the pipelined version was written. It's still not 100% correct, but it's close. It's also very unoptimized and so it's several times slower than the original DSP core.

My take is that you should use the original DSP core for those games where it works and use the pipelined DSP for the games that it works with, at least until the pipelined DSP has been optimized (at which point the old core will go away).
