Thumbs up Progress

Yes, progress is being made on Virtual Jaguar. As a matter of fact, if you look at the screenshots on the official homepage you'll see some nice progress in a few of the games.

There are of course still lots of bugs to take care of, and some polish to do on the GUI but a 1.0.7 release is getting nearer...

Stay tuned!

Re: Progress

Save states is definitely something that I would like to see in VJ, but I don't know that we can do that in the near future because the DSP & GPU may be undergoing some changes that would make state saving difficult.

It's going on the TODO list...

Re: Progress

*which is a very long TODO list by know*

Okay, I'm back online again after some nifty motherboard problem (smoke came out of the case) and the result is that my mobo, CPU and memory is know officially dead Since I didn't had a spare development system available I decided to buy a new one :

- AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2,0Ghz);
- Gigabyte GA-K8NNXP (nForce 3 150 chipset);
- 512MB Corsair XMS PC3200 CL2 memory;

In other words. Compile time goed down bigtime!

Re: Progress

Compile times on my 1.4 GHz box were always pretty good (around a minute for a full build on MinGW, faster on Linux).

Glad to see you're back! I recently had to replace my CD-RW after 2 years of service (and it only had a 1 year warranty! ) If you get a chance (I know you've got lots to do lately) to grab the latest CVS and take a look at AvP, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Dammit! This board ate my last reply!

Well, icculus seems to be down at the moment, so, just in case you were wondering, we're still working on VJ. I've figured out why Flip Out wasn't working and found yet another bug with the GPU which kept Fight For Life from working. That last bugfix also fixed Hover Strike, Phase Zero, Ultra Vortek (the official release) and probably a few other that I haven't gotten around to testing yet.

In other news, I'm not sure when the official 1.0.7 release will be since I haven't heard from Niels in a while (hey, Niels! ). In the meantime, though, I'm thinking about posting semi-regular binary builds of CVS on the website so that those of you who aren't able to build CVS can check out the latest developments.

Stay tuned!

Check icculus.

Oh yeah, one other thing--the file formats that VJ supports has changed slightly to reflect what's out there. Note that many of the files that Cowering's GoodJag renaming tool "fixes" are incorrectly identified! Be sure to check this page for an explanation. One major change is that the .jag extension is now properly recognized as a Jaguar Server file. This means that if you have ROMs that are named with a .jag extension, they won't be properly recognized. The proper extension for ROMs is .j64 (as far as VJ is concerned).

Great job! BTW the Video/Audio options screens aren't hooked up yet, that's why everything is under "Misc.". If you look at the Compatibility chart on the official website and the item under Brutal Sports Football, you'll see an explanation of how to fix that image.

Like I said before, the reliability of GoodJag to identify everything is not 100% at the moment, and it seems that Cowering doesn't care about it either. I could be wrong about that, but...

Also, I know what the problem is in AvP with the Predator invisibility mode and how to fix it as well...

Hey Guruma, Brutal Sports Football does work, you just have to remove 512 bytes from the front of the ROM image (who knows why it's there). I'm pretty sure that Ville Linde has a utility to strip those bytes from the header on his website...

Let's see... Look here, at the bottom of the page. I used a hex editor to remove those bytes, but you'd probably have better luck with Ville's file fixer.

It really is easy to fix this one, so I'll walk you through it step by step.

1. Go to this page and download a copy of frhed--it's probably the best hex editor for Windows that I've seen.
2. Install and run frhed.
3. Once frhed is running, go to File|Open and open the Brutal Sports Football image (make sure that it's unzipped!).
4. Highlight the first 512 bytes of the file (use the mouse or the keyboard--it doesn't really matter).
5. Press the delete key. A dialog will ask you to confirm that this is really what you want to do. Click OK.
6. Either press CTRL+S to save the file or go to File|Save.

That's it! You've just cut out the first 512 bytes from Brutal Sports Football. Give it a whirl with VJ.
