Try without a bios file, it'll autodetect the region.

Game saves as in battery saves (or ram saves), No.

Game saves as in Save States, I don't think those would work for you unless the game you have is the exact same disc or iso where the original person made the save state.

I'm not sure on the exact method, but I've beaten the game on 8 star difficulty (so I can pick the same characters twice), then beat Survival mode as well (not sure on what difficulty). After that, I could access mech-gouki mode, and after beating it I could select Mech-gouki in arcade mode.

funnily enough, the easiest team to beat Mech-gouki with was Dan and Norimaro.

also you need to hold down L AND R both at the same time, not just hold down each one of them.

Love your site Borisz, and I just want to mention that there's a new version of SSF out (Ver0.09 beta R3).

I also have a question. How do you save the settings? Sometimes when I load SSF the Cartridge would be 4MB and the Area Code would be set to Japan, eventhough I've changed it before.

Hello,

Borisz is wrong about the P4. Nor all the P4 are equals. The latest with more processing frequency are enough for emulate Saturn.
A Pentium 4 at 3GHZ it's more than enough to emulate Saturn. I have a P4 Prescott 3GHZ with a Nvidia 7600gs gddr3 overclocked of factory, 1GB of Ram, and is enough. I play the games at full speed as the actual capacities of the emulator.

Wow this thing is driving me crazy!
Ive played through Shining force 3 scene 1 and 2 now.
I just started scene 3 and the screen keeps goin black after the end of the first chapter. So I started playing around with the settings a little. I changed which bios i was using and swapped the area code around. Now My memory card is gone and I cannot get it to come back, no matter what I do. I cant even load the states I had originally saved. I will cry if i cant get my save game back. 2 full games worth of work down the drain. Please someone, anyone, help me.

TrainingDay, i dont know this for sure but if you are playing the patched to english shining force 3, from what i can tell that scene 3 isn't translated. That could be the reason why it crashes. Please note that i may be wrong as i have never tried the game before and dont remember the website where it says what wasnt translated, if there any bugs and right now i havent the time to search sorry.

thanks but im not concerned with the crashing. Im sure ill find a way to get by it. and ive alredy played through the fan translated scene 2 with no problems. My biggest issue is figuring out why i cant get the emu to recognize the memory cart. The saves are there, inside the external backup folder, but there doing me no good. the internal saves are still there unaffected but once again, I need the cart. I believe ive had this problem before, cant remember for the life of me why i did to fix it though.

It sets up different profiles for different games, per the game serial.
Load up the emulator without a game in the cd drive to edit the "default" cart/area code/compatibility settings. It will then use that whenever you add a game.
Or press 1/2/3/4 on the keyboard while starting up the emulator, this "hotloads" a compatibility preset. You can edit these 4 presets in one of the ini files, forgot which. Use wordpad on them if the line breaks dont show up.

The p4 eats **** and thats a fact, Prescott is more powerful but it runs so hot that it could melt the ice in antarctica.
As for the games, use a higher compatibility mode or enable SH2 cache or even just run some games that use more of the Saturns power (any 3d fighter that runs in interlaced hires mode, ex. Virtua Fighter 2), I can guarantee it wont run at fullspeed unless you have a liquid nitrogen cooled 8ghz p4.

Wow, I thought he dropped off the face of the earth. I guess praying doesn't work after all. Nice work on the compat lists Borisz, but there are holes galore. I'd help but you were always a complete a-s-s-hole so I guess I'll pass this time around. I only have unlimited access to every Saturn game ever made but oh well. Originals too. The shame.

Btw, add these PC specs to your compatibility lists:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66ghz
ASUS P5N-E SLI
2 - 1gb blocks of DDR2 800mhz
Seagate 250gb SATA2 (os drive)
Seagate 250gb IDE (running SSF 009 beta R4)
GeForce XFX 8600
NEC 2510A FW 2.19 (main dvd drive)

SSF runs pretty solid here with the ability to tweak whatever you want and not suffer any framerate loss or graphics problems. SSF still has some sound issues, but overall I'm pretty impressed. It's just a shame you have shell out a small fortune to upgrade to a PC that'll run this thing properly. I could have spent that money on drugs and alcohol. OOPS.

I guess I can probably sell a few of my Saturns now. I'll keep the boxed bad boy and the modded mofo, and let go of a few black ones and a mint white one. Guess those were a great investment considering the price has nearly doubled since I bought em all. OOPS.

Keep up the good work I guess.

And? OMFG REAL PICTURES OF ME!!! Weren't you arrested for credit card fraud?

Sucks Marvel vs. Street Fighter ain't working. Seriously though, leave a list of stuff that still needs to be tested and if I feel like not having a real life on the weekends I'll test some. Lemme know where to post results. Overall I'm pretty impressed with the emulator and work you've done over the past... 5 years? If I can help in some way I will.

Tama - Adventurous Ball in Giddy Labyrinth is reported to have fps slowdowns during menu transitions on SSF. It also has slowdowns on the original disc and I've tested on every Saturn I have. Bad game coding ftw. There are a few originals that suffer from this so I'm not sure I'd be so quick to blame SSF.

Herc's Adventures (usa) is running perfect here but is listed as crashing on your site. SSF 009 beta R4

what it is, is what it is

Marvel vs Street works fine, the only problem it has is if you set the default region to pal with scanline based timing enabled (to edit the default options, load the emulator without any games in the cd drive). There is a bug that causes scanline base timing to limit all games to the speed of the default region, and not the pergame setting. But if you only use ntsc games, you'll never notice it, the only reason I noticed it was cause I mainly test PAL games.
This is also true for xmen vs streetfighter, by the way.

The usa game list was copied from linlhutz' site like a year ago, if there are any issues blame him. Many of those games were tested on like 5 year old versions, though. The list I did myself are most jpn titles (regardless of version), and all PAL games listed from ver 0.09 alpha and above.

Good call for Tama, though SSF has the tendency that often it does not always get the slowdown effect (radiant silvergun doesnt slow down to a crawl on boss explosions, or if you use a max level homing napalm on the centipede boss - sometimes this is not bad coding, Treasure often does this, they overload the console with visual effects. The result is a gargantuan and boss explosion in slow motion - ikaruga and gradius v also has this).

2-3, and no work was involved. This isn't my emulator, I'm just making translations.

I have little or no PAL stuff other than your Keio 2 rip. Awesome game. I'll do what I can with the USA and misc JAP I have. I don't really have access to all, but I do have 600+ games I can test and help out with. Also a smattering of usa and jap originals.

As far as the slowdowns etc, blame Sega of Japan. They wanted to focus more on the 2D gaming aspects which they did and did very well. Unfortunately that era saw marketing trends leaning more towards 3D which the Saturn struggles to do even mediocre at. Had Sega of Japan and Sega America come together with the same ideas and followed the popular trends of the time, the Saturn would have gotten more support. Keep in mind this wouldn't have changed the hardware to improve 3D support so Sega was doomed anyway. Pretty much anything the Saturn renders in 3D looks like pixelated blocky ****. At least N64 had the balls to blur the **** out of everything so it looked a little better in 3D. Blehk. The Saturn tears the PSX a new a-hole on the 2D front, but it was too little too late in an era that was already changing over to 3D gaming. You guys spend too much time worrying about the 3D fighting crap working properly. It looks like **** and it's usually sluggish on the original and the games really aren't that great anyway. The 2D stuff is where the Saturn is at.

Btw, when are we gonna coop C&C3 Kane's War? Only flaw I see in that game is the mammoth tank factor. Build a few and it's game over already.

I haven't ever made a keio 2 rip, I don't have the game.

The mammoth tank is pretty much the worse unit in c&c3 Kanes Wrath, it costs too much, it's way too slow, and it dies too easy. I think you meant Purifiers with Blue Flame upgrades, or stealthed Reconer + commando, or the mothership wormhole trick.

Build 3 or 4 mammoth tanks and you can complete any mission. Huge flaw. I thought you were the guy who supplied Keio 2 pal?

Stop playing in Easy mode. Also, you can't even build mammoths with Nod (who are the only one to have single player missions in Kanes Wrath).
