Question Satourne=Saturnin?

Same domain, same purpose, same language used......Why do I feel that this new "saturnin" emulator that has been news lately have something to do with satourne?

Re: Satourne=Saturnin?

Same domain? Its just a saturn emulation domain..... Same language? Just a coincidence.....only French people emulate the Saturn :P. You feel it has something to do with Satourne because they both emulate the Saturn :P.

Don't forget that they also emulate the ST-V.

Why? It's enough as it is that MAME is hard enough to run.....so why bother adding ST-V support? It only makes it worse....and besides, the emulation isn't complete, far as I know......

The rom setup is quite different and difficult to handle.....rather than using a single rom file, MAME uses multiple files in a single to run the game. Now, that's understandable, but when there isn't a detection method of whether or not you have all the necessary files to run the rom, and at times MAME and the rom dumper information don't seem to agree with each other (case in point: Every time I try to run Xevious, the emulator says I'm missing a bunch of files, even though I've checked mame.dk, and it clearly shows that I have all the files necessary), it gets frustrating to run many games. Add to that MAME's stubborn requirement of using its own BIOS roms for special emulation (NeoGeo, CPS2, etc.), and yet not making them easily accessible (they might as well just add it to the emulator, even with the risk of being taken off), and you got something that's problematic.

Well, I can assure you ...

Well, I can assure you that I'm not Fabien
Satourne and Saturnin are 2 different projects, and I will be happy when Saturnin will be technically as good as Satourne.
Fabien is a good friend of mine (actually we met because of Saturn emulation), and we live in the same city. So when I need Saturn related info, I just pick the phone or go to his place to have the answer
But the 2 emulators do not have a common part, and I didn't look at anytime into Satourne source code (although Fabien proposed it to me)
Hope this clears things up ...

Re: Satourne=Saturnin?

It's always good to see such collaboration between authors

firestarter:
Well maybe I'm missing something but i always found the rom setup very simple to understand you have the main roms and then it's clones (that use files from the main) and has you said theres a bios file sometimes.
I can say i never had a problem knowing what was missing with the help of mame32 and romcenter.

So adding ST-V to MAME for me is just a natural evolution and a welcomed one.

Edit: by the way shouldn't Runik get the emu author flag

@Shin Gouki
Thanks
But I'm myself amazed by the work of the Mame team : Haze and Kale (and some others) made a tremendous job, and I'm far of getting the same result with the same game. I'm getting closer every day, and I've good hope of improving the whole thing, but this hardware is a real headache to manage !

@DragonSoull
I got some nice info from Haze too, and I also think that collaboration between emu authors is a really good thing

OMG ... I'm surrounded by red stars
That's great !

Did you try with an action replay and a good old swap ? You'll not need to mod your Saturn (that's the way I play imports on mine)

Re: Re: Satourne=Saturnin?

I think it would work with a ST key too.
I got mine from segaxtreme a while ago, and I heard that lik-sang had some too.

OK, cool. This might benefit us all in the long run, sort of like the zsnes-snes9x partnership.....so all's well in the world, sort of

An ST key would work fine for most import games. It would only be a problem with the later generation Capcom games, which require the 4MB RAM cart, in which case you either have to do a swap, get a 4-in-1 or 3-in-1 cart (NCSX has a 5-in-1 which supports Vampire Savior, though I don't know whether it ships out of North America), or mod and use the cart.
