@ES - Status

Hi everyone!

As youīve noticed i havenīt updated the forums for a while now.. the reason for that is because iīve been busy because my real life problems are consuming me atm. now about @ES.

@ES is still in development and last days iīve been concentrating into porting some of the code for the linux and mac versions which are still planned... sadly i doubt am going to work more on it as its costing me several time to figure out and learn. the project itself is growing nicely even if i havenīt posted anything yet and the reason for that is quite simple:

in the previous version of @ES i did a big mistake and that mistake was to try to push things further rather than look and check for bugs or do some optimizations to the code which drived me to a state where i almost lost the view and the project itself(not to mention the limits and sickness of VB6)... as you may know the result was a damn buggy app that each time i run it here at work i get dissapointed to see what i actually delivered. this time am ensuring that wonīt happen again and therefore am optimizing and planning each function, class or custom control aswell as testing them as much as i can in order to improve performance and stability which is actually my goal.

The downside:
as you may guess the downside of all that is "TIME" but at the end people that still like @ES will agree with me and recognize that its the way to go.. also every single coder here will probably agree with me as is the only way to offer a good and stable app... because planning, optimization and bug hunting arenīt things you canīt ignore.

Real life problems:
the project will go on but its going to be a bit slow because atm am very busy and am having some nasty real life problems that are consuming my time, energy etc. and thats also the reason why am so stressed/irritated last time... so be patience and i can garantee you the new upcomming @ES is worth the wait.

last but not least my goal atm is to release the first public version by the end of this year if everything goes fine so until that just wait or contact me for betas

Regards
@ruantec

I know this is slightly late, but I've been away. All fans of @ES know you do good work, so take all the time you need. I'm sure it will be worth it.

Any update on releases? I'm using beta 7 and saw all the awesome video footage of the 3D version... is there going to be a release soon or is the project on hold?

Hi Danger Mouse and wellcome to ngemu

First of all the project isnīt on hold but the progress is quite slow atm.. the reason for that is quite obvious and the reasons are:

1. am the only one working on it.
2. not enough free time.
3. enough real life problems.
4. am re-checking and testing all i write in order to prevent previous problems.
5. code optimization.

as you can see there are many reasons that makes the progress of @ES slow but the project is by no means stoped or on hold.. atm am working and testing some stuff in order to bring great things to you guys and just as people here say "Good things... need time".

eitherway am hoping and planning to release the new version before the end of this year but as usual Betas will be available long before that exclusively for beta-testers.

Regards

Red face

Well if that's the case, I'd be more than happy to test for you as you make test releases.

Thank you PCXL-Fan

yes iīve been working in the @ruanViewer which is actually made to test some parts of the @ES classes and to bring a nice option to all those who hates the default windows pic viewer.. the development is going well and soon iīll show more and even send new builds to all those who are willed to test. and as showing in the last video posted by me in the @ruanViewer thread @ES has a new intro now

Regards

@es - movies and music

Hey @ruantec I was wondering how your app is handling movies and mp3 files. Will your @es require additional codecs to be installed (i hope not). Looking forward to seeing this new version of your nice app. Keep up all of your great work.

well there are ways to include libraries with it but its going to make the package bigger as you download them with the app. to be honest i donīt see the difference between a player such as VLC that includes over 270 libraries(dlls) and makes a nice package of around 18MB or download a <2mb app and use codecs available or download a 13MB codec pack separatelly. sometimes the use of libraries can make things a bit complicate or cause performance issues.

eitherway @ES use Codecs atm but i may think to add the use of libraries in future releases.
