@ES Audio/video features?
I am starting this thread as a request thread! As most of you should be aware @ES - shadow (The next release of @ES) will not be released for a while! But work will continue as we work to bring a much expanded @ES! Think of @ES as you have known it so far as being nothing but a small test at what can and will be done with @ES ![]() What I am looking for is what people do like AND don't like about there favorite media players! I want to make sure that we create players in these areas that are on par with the big boys! (Lofty expectations for ourselves, but it is our passion to achieve this) I have always used itunes for my audio and either nero showtime or media player classic for my video files and I know many may dis-like my choices in players (Especially itunes ) and I would love to hear your input!Please comment on both the good and bad points of your fav players My msn address is available to the left if you feel it would be easier through IM! So, what would make for your ultimate media player??

I dunno about ultimate, I usually just use windows media player because its simple. Play, pause, stop, repeat, pick another song from the playlist, drag and drop music in a different order on the list. For videos, supporting as many popular formats as possible like vlc is the best thing you could do as far as I know. .flv is big now because of youtube, for example. I really haven't checked what video formats @es supports already though. |

Metadata and album art specifically retrieved from Amazon during playing and locally stored, for example (with links to the Amazon page for either the track or album).

I always use media player classic that comes with codec pack, for all video files on my computer. I like it because I can configure almost anything with it. for e.g., I use my mouse to play/pause wheel to increase/decrease volume middle button to jump backwards and so on. for music I use windows media player 9 series, because of its easy to use library. I don't use anyother options in it. |

iŽve found a way to retrieve informations from Microsoft and Itunes servers... both ways works just fine and am able to get tags, coverarts etc.. but i need to toy a bit more to see how far i can get. about a link up... am starting to code apps for iphone/ipod-touch so i think a link-up shouldnŽt be that hard.

The only thing that I can think of right off the bat is proper iPod sync support outside of the worst Nazi program ever to exist, iTunes. I hate that **** with a passion. I dream of planting an explosive at the Apple headquarters because of it and my hand still hurts from punching a midget in the jaw out of anger. That's how much I hate it. They control every aspect of what you do in iTunes. Mozilla Songbird appeared to be a Godsend when I first tried it (great iTunes clone btw, think the Firefox of music management software ), but it only supports older iPod syncing and not the iPod Touch, which is what my girlfriend has. Also, having to have a music library on the computer synced to the library on the iPod is annoying. I formatted her computer and wiped out the music library on it and I couldn't upload new songs through iTunes to the Touch without wiping out 8 gigs of prior uploads because I didn't have the previous library on the computer. So I spent a couple of hours reuploading all of the songs and videos. I'm the type of person who pops the CD in, rips it into .mp3, uploads to the media player, and deletes if off of the computer when I'm done. I don't want to have to keep a huge library of music taking up valuable disk space on the already minimal amount of disk space that my laptop has. I know that there's an option to manage your own stuff in iTunes, but for some reason, there seems to be times where the media was still wiped off of the Touch. If you can implement those things, that will definitely get plenty of dedicated users of @ES. ![]() I guess that's why I bought a Sandisk Sansa Fuze ( ). No media app needed to sync. Drag and drop ftw! Sexy design and expandable storage is a plus also.[/rant,feature request] I use Windows Media Player for it's simplistic design for S-video TV-Out, library management, and its extremely fast media load times (makes me dread the thought of Winamp's load times ). I also use VLC on occasion for video because of its excellent selection of video filters and enhancements. ![]() The option of being able to use VST audio filters made for music composition such as FL Studio would be great for audio enhancement. There are a large amount of free audio filters made for those type of programs that would be great to use for the casual music listening session. Effects such as reverb, phazer, flanger, bass boost, graphic equalizer and much more would be nice to be able to apply to your music to enhance the listening experience. Being able to stack them in certain orders would be nice as well for multiple effects simultaneously, but I would imagine that that would be really intensive since @ES would have to render the audio with one effect, then another, then another after combining the first two, etc. I guess media enhancement/eye candy would be the most popular feature amongst the casual person trying to find a good media application. It's one thing listening/watching media, but it's a whole new experience when you do it with superb quality. ![]() More to come when I can think of them.

Thanx a tonne TCoS! Some awesome ideas there! I actually do like the way iTunes organizes music for you on the HDD! @rantec and I discussed this issue deeply quite a while ago and came to the conclusion that we will have to give @ES an option to enable or disable this feature! I also dislike the fact you must keep your audio collection on both your ipod/iphone as well as your pc as well! Why can't iTunes enable people to use the iPod HDD as the storage space for your audio? (As well as copy/move it too the pc HDD if need be!) Right now you must have your music in iTunes AND your ipod!! This would be a huge factor for me as I would then be able to remove the need for so much space on my pc! We will have to have an indepth look at ipod use It certainly will be the make/break of @ES for a LOT of people!Itunes needs to be taken down! |

actually what we want to reach with @ES is not a Itunes clone or something like that but see it as a compilation of all the positive things people like about different audio players in just one app ![]() i would like to thanks Shadow again for staring this thread in order to collect very important informations/ideas/wishes that could help @ES to be a nice Entertainment app for everyone .................stil taking note ..........men my todo list is groing like hell ![]() Regards @ruantec

I don't think TCoS meant we should create an Itunes clone! Just that he was pointing out the bad points on itunes cause that is what I asked for! The good and the bad! I actually agree that ipod/iphone's being usable with @ES would be a great asset! |

now to answer your question..TV Tuner support is very easy as DirectShow allows me to connect to your TV card and render the stuff in @ES. the bad part of it is that am re-writing the entire code(yes from the scratch) in C# and it should take me a while to get a good level or to release a new version.. eventhough iŽve added your request to my todo list and iŽll see what i can do Regards @ruantec

The only thing which makes an MP fav in my eyes is for it to have support for as many video/audio formats as possible, just so I don't have to install loads of MPs just to play different formats. Plus, It'd also be nice to have some cool extra features like Real Player has, like the online video grabber (which has, so far, worked with EVERY online video). Plus, a basic audio/video CD burner incorporated into the app would also make it great.
