Why was PSXeven packed?

I noticed that this emulator was packed with UPX, a program known to harbor trojans. From my experience, programs that were packed usually have something to hide. I'm not implying anything here but IMO packing a program seems unneccesary and attract unwanted suspicion..

It was packed to reduce the exe size in _a lot_ of Kb
UPX is simply great

IMHO you're just paranoid. There's plenty of programs out there packed with UPX, like MAME. And it's used simply because it cuts down the file size a lot, in MAME's case the .exe goes from 14MB to 3MB.

Maybe it's to stop the average person from using a resource editor to modify the .exe file and call the emulator their own?

>> why was it packed?

coz i wanted it too? if you want you can just unpack it. Geesuz of all the **** to ask. And btw, most of your "beloved" emulators are packed as well, i.e epsxe, pcsx, psinex because we want to reduce the filesize. Dont start making something out of nothing alright? And keep you bull**** to yourself. :eyes:

Well, I use UPX to compress the .exe files and also what SimonMallion said here, to prevent another ppl decompile the .exe file using resource editor such as Resource Hacker

i'd only use it to compress. if i wanted to hack a compressed exe, i'd simply decompress it. duh :P

Hide? Hide something like what? If it had a virus, then Mcafee or Norton Antivirus will go bonkers on your PC. The emu author knows exactly whats in it. Did you read the readme file attached with PSXeven? It states that Xeven is not responsible for any damage or effects his emu does ( well, theres no harm supposed to happen, but anyways)by using PSXeven, you are taking the whole responsiblity on yourself.

Yours,
-Elly
