Unhappy PSXeven no longer starts up!

I posted this in the general troubleshooting forum, but it took ages for someone to respond, and unfortunately his suggestion didn't work.

Basically, PSXeven used to work.
Now it doesn't.

I haven't installed any new hardware/drivers. One day, it just stopped working, whether it be version .14b, .14 or .13.

I've attached an image that shows the windows of the error that appears.

Basically it's complaining about some conflict with mfc42.dll
Checking the MS Windows tech support site for similar errors show that this sort of problem is due to program incompatibility with WinXP, and MS can't be responsible for it. Curse them.

Of course, if the problem were OS compatibility, how is it that it used to work? (And i'm sure it wasn't a delusion... i've got screen shots to prove it to myself )

Help me... plz... anyone...

thy using this mfc42.dll instead. Unzip it inside the "PSXeven" directory.

I've tried placing it in the root PSXeven dir (alongside the executable), but it doesn't solve the problem for PSXeven .13, .14 or .14b.

Maybe I should try reinstalling Windows XP later and see how that goes...

i get a similar problem when running psxeven. although, it hasn't worked for me at all, but i really want to try this emulator out.
tried it with different bios, got the dll, different plug-ins/settings yet it still doesn't work. it only reaches the 'detected ntsc disk' part on the debug screen, then the windows' error mssg pops up. (similar to what you had, except the modname is 'unknown'.

any ideas?
thanks.

you mean that if psxeven doesn't work, it has somethig to do with windows? btw, does psxeven put some 'keys' in windowas when you install/unzip it?

if PSXeven doesn't work with the error that i showed in my first post, yes, it has something to do with windows.

no, I don't believe PSXeven sticks anything into windows; mfc42.dll is a common library file that a lot of programs use, but sometimes there are problems...

FYI,

I had this problem once, solved by deleting the all the PSXeven configuration keys from the registry.

the mfc42.dll file is one of the dll files for directx, so if anyone has this problem, try reinstalling directx.

edit: i looked for the file and saw that there was 4 copies on my comp, and the properties said that the product name was visual c++, so spoony was right, it is a common file
but still it wouldnt hurt to do a reinstall of directx if you have that problem again...

IIRC I deleted:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PSXeven
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Vision Thing

ah that's a good idea... i didn't think of that...

i tried reinstalling DirectX 9.0a, it didn't help me, but definitely try it anyways before reinstalling Windows...
