Running isos/bins from a cd-rom drive...

This is something that I do with ePSXe and it works without problems, but I can't get it to work with PSXeven.

Basically, I make an image of a PSX game, and then copy the image file to a CD. This is handy because some games use much less than the whole CD; I can often fit 2 games to a disc... and if you ever need to make a backup of the backups, you get the benefit of being able to copy two or three games at once...

Running image files off the HDD works fine, though.

Anyway, the error message that pops out is:
ERROR: Unable to locate/open/share cd-rom image.

System Config:
WinXP
Sony 10/4/32 CD-RW drive (it's an old one...)
512MB DDR
Athlon T-Bird 1.4GHz
Radeon 7200 64MB DDR

CD-ROM plugins tested:
Xeven CDR 0.9
Pete's CDR ASPI/IOCTL v1.1
Barrett-Kazuya 1.1 and DAO Image Driver 0.4 fail to start up

I think I found your BIGGEST mistake here. It seems that you merge 2 games into 1 CD, right? Well, thats the problem. Even for one PSX game, you can NOT just copy and paste like using Nero. But you need to use burning software that capable to make 1:1 ISO like CloneCD.

Eh no that's not what I'm doing.

Imagine this is one of my discs. These are the files on the disc:

D:\Sol_Divide.bin
D:\Silent_Bomber.bin

It's quite different from the directory structure of an image that has been burned onto a disc...

It is not "burned as an iso"... yeah, I know; explaining how I'm "writing image files" to a disc and yet not "writing the image to the disc" is a pain to explain. >_<

I use the "Run ISO" option, not the "Run CDROM" option.

Simply make the ISO as I said, and Run ISO or using Daemo Tools to load your ISO into virtual drive [for this, use "Run CDROM"].

I understand what your saying (I really do ) and if it work's fine in ePSXe then maybe it could be PSXeven then. Not sure why it wouldnt work but ether use ePSXe or exstract the bin image to your hdd for temp use.

Spoony,

Tried Mooby's plugin? It's the best one around when dealing with ISOs IMHO.

Quick reiteration:
Running the ISO/BIN/whatever image off the HDD is no problem. But what I want to do is run the ISO/BIN/whatever off of a CD.

Why not dump the image to the HDD?
Because I'm short on HDD space; imagine having to have to dump every game you wanted to play onto your HDD in order to play them... not fun...

Why not use ePSXe?
It doesn't run some games that PSXeven does. Plus I find that PSXeven runs smoother on my machine... dunno why, it just does...

Why not use the original disc?
Some of my discs are broken/scratched up or I'm otherwise afraid of losing them. I don't know about you, but I've only got one copy of Carnage Heart and I don't want to lose it.

Why not just make a 1:1 copy?
Cuz I want to save media and not have to juggle so many discs. Plus I'm worried about making ISOs of CDR copies (some of my backups don't work when re-imaged... probably a bad burn in the first place...)... this way, I store the image file which I can easily re-copy the image file without worry or burn into PSX-playable format if I need to.

---

Questions and stuff from me:

Can DAEMON Tools mount an image without copying it to the HDD?

I'll try some more CDR plugins... maybe that's the problem...

spoony: use daemon tools, it should be able to mount the image files and then you can simply use run cd option from ps7.
