Chrono Cross dilemma...

I'm running a GeForce 2 MX400 v7100 Pro, Windows 2000 and an AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz. I can't seem to get past the burning house scene in Disc 2. The screen is either all black or part black with a small strip of the screen showing. I can't get through it!
I've tried the latest versions of Pete's (1.55) and I've enabled Full VRAM Primitives and/or Framebuffer Read on Move, and they make the screen all jumpy. I still can't get around. What can I do?
