my best config, OGL 1.76, Final Fantasy 9
This thread's goal is to be the same as HushyPushy's best OGL2 config thread, but for OGL 1.76 . I will update it later to be a D3D 1.76 thread too. Hello everyone. The best config i've found for Final Fantasy 9 is with Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76 . I don't use very often OGL2, because it doesn't support the FSAA and others settings you can adjust in the properties of your graphic card. I have far better results with the settings on "Optimal quality" in my graphic card properties Here are the best settings i've found : Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.76 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. GFX card: RADEON 9800 Pro x86/MMX/3DNow!/SSE Resolution/Color: - 1024x768 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing [32 Bit] - Keep psx aspect ratio: off Textures: - R8G8B8A8 - Filtering: 2 - Hi-Res textures: 0 - VRam size: 0 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: Auto Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 2 - Framebuffer texture: 3 - Framebuffer access: 1 - Alpha multipass: on - Mask bit: on - Advanced blending: on Misc: - Scanlines: off - Line mode: off - Unfiltered FB: off - 15 bit FB: off - Dithering: off - Screen smoothing: on - Screen cushion: off - Game fixes: on [00011200] And here are some pictures : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That is with 4x anti-alisasing, 16x anisotropic filtering, high quality mipmap detail level. (i don't know if anisotropic filtering and mipmap have any effect, but these are the settings i use to play all my games, so i don't want to switch everytime i play ff9 ). If i unlock the fps limit (60 fps), ff9 runs at 290-300 fps. I have an athlon xp 2600+, and 1024 Mo of DDR Ram. It should work on lower configs.Have you any suggestions ? special fixes, or minor adjustements...

i'd actually recommend turning off AF, it forces bilinear filtering (no Z buffer so no anisotropic for PSX games) which can lead to some ugly effects---notice how your text boxes have a "hole" in the edges? you can turn off AF, crank up the AA (you can do 6x on that 9800, right?) and i'd say fiddle with texture filtering so text boxes dont look weird--i thought 4 was optimal. the nice thing is, you can change it in game, so you can see what it looks like on the fly, and make direct comparison shots.

AA - Anti-aliasing. AF - Anisotropic filtering.

What kind of Intel Chip would that be? If it's a GMA9xx series I don't think it even supports AA in the first place. Otherwise, often you can find settings like these when you right-click on your desktop and go to the properties. In my case, running an ATi videochip, there's also the "Catalyst Control Center" where I can set these kind of things. Perhaps Intel also has its own control center? You may also need to go to the Windows Control Panel to find these videochip specific settings.

there should be a graphics properties/options thing in the right-click context menu but as you said, i dont think it has any AA settings.
