PLEASE help with cyberpad

Tried cyberpad 1.0 can connect fine but the game crashes to desktop just after it starts
Cyberpad 1.4 well i've downloaded the kaillera server ran it have set up port forwarding and all that my friend will get as far as connected, logging in. In the server program I can see his connection request but it times out after a bit

We're both running windows xp pro, both have routers but both have ports forwarded, unless theres some other port i'm not aware of

I dont care whether I use 1.0 or 1.4 I just need 1 of them to work
