it won't configure the left-rght on the right stick.

and theres no epsxe source code to work with either, even though there was originally meant to be a 1.7beta in the works.

it looks like something in the core for pcsx... so im going to see if a friend can work on the pcsx source code, and get some fixes in it if possible

if epsxe had a controller plugin, then i'd be happy to play it in that.

on windows 98? becoz as far as i've seen FF8 pc is almost impossible to get working properly on the NT core, even more so now that the drivers no longer support palleted textures

ah, no wonder it works, that is a DX7 based graphics chip, probably still supports Palleted textures.

I'd be interested in seeing the config settings of anyone that can get perfect battle swirls AND non-flickering/blackbox battle gauges in FF8.

I'm not sure it's possible at this point, i've tried tons of different settings both posted here and on my own - with no success.
Really seems like it's one or the other - black swirls seem like the better option to me as the flickering/blackbox battle gauges & battle cursors are terribly annoying.

I have an ATI Radeon 9600 pro and I use OGL2 also, and yeah, i get black battle swirls. i can't fix it though, it seems. I guess FF8 emulation is one that won't be perfected.

I can't play my FF8 PC anymore because it doesn't work worth anything with what I have.

Maybe you should try the OGL config then.

theres a weird box around my ATB, i have no idea how to fix it either. the battle swirls sometimes work, sometimes don't.

should i set the resolution to what i WANT or to what my desktop is at? thanks

just a note, it seems like ff9 runs way better. it seems more cohesive and fluid for some reason.

That depends. If you're using an LCD, you should probably use your monitor's native resolution to avoid nasty pixel interpolation. We're assuming that's what everyone sets their desktop resolution to (because it looks the best), and it says "use your desktop resolution" because that seems to be what the majority of people can understand the best, rather than "your monitor's native resolution."

If you're using a CRT, you can use whatever resolution you like, because they don't have any problems with pixel interpolation.

Yeah, I suppose that FF9 is just easier to emulate or something. I had no problems with FF9 on emulator (beat it on ePSXe actually), but I've had nothing BUT problems with FF8.

i have a CRT and when i set it to 1600x1200 (even tho my desktop res is at 1024x768) the screen has a tearing almost. its like a weird anomaly in the screen when i go up and down. and it doesn't seem like the resolution really improves the graphics at all.

Try turning Vsync on and off to see which you like better. Tearing is a symptom of turning vysnc off, btw.

yeah, I'd just force it if I were you. And most of the time, I use Eternal 1.41 for sound.

Use the regular one (not Lite). Default settings should be fine, you can apply special game fixes if necessary. If you have any sound problems, then you can mess with the other settings.

Try lowering the internal X and Y resolutions.
