These are my settings: Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.6 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. GFX card: RADEON 9800 Pro x86/SSE2 Resolution/Color: - 1280x1024 Fullscreen - NO desktop changing - Internal X resolution: 1 - Internal Y resolution: 2 - Keep psx aspect ratio: on - No render-to-texture: off - Filtering: 4 - Hi-Res textures: 2 - TexWin pixel shader: off - VRam size: 128 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: Auto Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 1 - Framebuffer effects: 3 - Framebuffer uploads: 1 Misc: - Scanlines: off - Mdec filter: on - Screen filtering: on - Shader effects: 3/4 - Flicker-fix border size: 2 - GF4/XP crash fix: off - Game fixes: on [00000002] With 1/2/2 I never get ANY slowdowns.. nah, I use screen smooth, but I'd like to be able to use two or more at once. There was one that really brought out vibrance in image and colours, median shader or something. there aren't many anyway, might as well test them out. also, most of them are real obvious, no testing needed eg. brightness/blur/rotate/gray, unless you know where to get shaders created by other users. If so, please inform me.

im not sure what the lower FE means in terms of pauses, but i get the pauses in FF9 also. if you'll notice, my OGL2 config for FF9 includes FE at 3. at 2, i got the exact same pauses.

Hmmm...have you tried MAXING out every setting? I tried it...but I couldn't remember the battle swirl. I enabled smoothing and luigi(?) shaders at that time. I was running in a window at 1024x768.

figured something out about that pauses with fe at 2. they only occur, when internal x resolution is set to very high. so there are 2 solutions. 1. set internal x resolution to high <- a bit worse graphics 2. set fe to 3 <- bad battle swirl i prefere setting internal x to very high and fe to 3. |

ah, so that's why ATi users werent getting the pauses. well, i agree with you. very high X looks better than a crappy looking battle swirl.

Problems I've seen that this config resolves, and how it resolves them: - Controller rumble (sssPSX + sssPSX pad plugin) - Battle swirls looking wrong (framebuffer settings) - Black flashing or solid rectangle behind ATB bars (framebuffer, special game fix) - Missing fadein/fadeout during intro "slideshow" (framebuffer, special fix) - Garbage on screen at beginning of "slideshow" (framebuffer, special fix) - Missing/garbage text in menus etc (framebuffer, special fix) - Glitchy sound ("Update before accessing register" in Eternal) I've played through: - FMVs - Scripted 3D engine cutscenes - Field map - World map - Battles - Menus which should cover most of the problems people have had. I haven't gotten far enough in the game to switch disks, so that's an issue that's yet to be resolved; I know some games have problems when switching. Since this is an OGL2 config, prerequisites are a card and driver that supports OpenGL 2.0 (DirectX 9 in DirectX terms). If you have a barely-DX9 card (like an NVidia 5200FX), turn the shader stuff off as that impacts performance. You may also want to do things like reducing resolution, turning off full-screen filters, etc. As always, your mileage may vary. OS: WinXP SP2 Gfx: ATI X850XT PCI-Ex Snd: C-Media Rear Panel Audio CPU: Intel P4 HT 3GHz 800Mhz FSB RAM: 2G PAD: DualShock2 on RadioShack USB adapter Emulator: sssPSX 0.0.26 (so that rumble will work, otherwise ePSXe 1.6 would be fine) GPU: Pete's OpenGL2 2.7 SPU: Eternal 1.41 CDR: Mooby2 (image made with Alcohol 120%) PAD: sssPSX PAD plugin 1.6 GPU settings: ![]() ![]() SPU settings: ![]() CDR settings: ![]() PAD settings: ![]() Dan Last edited by dbhankins; September 13th, 2005 at 19:34.. Well, I tried tweaking the settings for Final Fantasy VIII for the past two weeks and I've been getting quite some results. These are my settings and they work pretty well for me, except for minor glitches observed rarely. Using GPU: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.8 SPU: Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41 CDR/ISO Plugin: Pete's CDR ASPI/IOCTL Driver Version 1.11 (or) EPSXE Internal ISO plugin GPU Settings ========== Resolution & Colours ------------------- For Fullscreen Mode Desktop Resolution = 1024 x 768 (640 x 480 is prefered) Colour Depth = 32 bit Internal X resolution = 2 Internal Y resolution = 3 (if possible otherwise 2) Stretching mode = 0. (3 looks better i think) Render mode = 1 (2 if supported) Textures -------- Texture filtering = 0 or 5 or 6 (looks better than others for me) Hi-Res textures = 2 (looks really nice) Framerate --------- Default settings Compatability ------------- Offscreen Drawing = 1 Framebuffer Effects = 2 (3 is slow but better looking for me) Framebuffer Upload = 0 When using frame buffer upload settings high you may notice a glitch during battles. During battles where you see the HP of your characters a big black transparent box appears. If you don't want that set Framebuffer upload to 0. However when using 0 setting, you may notice when you go from one place to another a shaky effect during the transition. To correct this you may have to set the settings to 2 or 0. It depends on the card. MISC ----- MDEC filter ON Special Game Fixes ON Enable 0x0002 Enable 0x1000 Even using these settings, during your visit to the Fire Cavern, you will notice that the battles look a bit hazy and blurry. I tried the OpenGL plugin of Pete (1.76 version) and got the same results. However when I turn on Direct Framebuffer Updates in the Special Game Fixes, this problem is eliminated. I wonder if Pete would implement that Fix in his OpenGL2 version. Anyways... SPU Settings ------------ For the Sound Plugin, you can use either Eternal SPU Plugin, Eternal Lite SPU Plugin or ePSXe Internal SPU. When using Eternal SPU / Eternal Lite SPU Plugin, I had these settings on Audio Device ------------ DirectSound with a Buffer Size 15 or 65 Audio Out Method ----------------- SPUasync - Async mode = Wait or Smooth (or) Thread Special Game Fix --------------- Turn on Update before accessing register. Others turned off CDVD Plugin ----------- When using Pete's CDR ASPI/IOCT Driver; Use Asyn read for Caching method, and use read subchannels. These settings were implemented on a Computer with P4 2.4 Ghz, NVIDIA Geforce 6xxx series. 1024 MB RD Ram. SSE, SSE2, MMX supported PC. Last edited by Xymet; March 9th, 2006 at 08:02.. |

having problems with ff8
hi there im having problems with ff8 pal uk version (actually its aussie version but thats what it is detected as so id say we use the same pal region code) i get on train (leaving timber to go to east academy) i get off and all i see is black but i can pause the game and view the world map. ive tried various setups and still no luck. (hmm this maybe a wrongly configured cd plugin as ive noticed the cd-rom aint spinning (well the light aint on) when it does this. other problems bug at bridge in dollet. (not worried about that really its only a small bug really) junction tutorial always showing up (really, really annoying) and i have extreme difficulty with shops ie i always seem to get balamb item shop. but i wan say the weapon shop. (not so annoying but still dont like it) also i would the settings for every plugin. ie epsxe 1.6 or pcsx 1.5 gpu: anything just provide download link if it aint pete ogl 1.76, 2.2 or 2.8. and setting badly needed. i dont care about swirls, as long as the fps does not drop below 25fps im happy. as long as i can read the messages, access shops, view the battle screens properly and that about it. cd-rom: anything just provide download link and most definetly settings. images dont work ive tried 2 types and no luck, yes i have the cd as well. i have the bioses scph1000,1001 and 7502. dont need help with gamepad plugin. spu: i know this is fine. but willing to reconfigure my computer specs: amd sempron 2800+ (going to be amd athlon 3200 939) mobo: abit nf8-v (socket 754) upgrading to 939 video: nvidia geforce 6600gt agp (upgrading to 7600gt pci-e) ram: 1gb (2x512) lg dvd burner. onboard sound card. all help appreciated thx. using winxp pro. well first, update your OGL2 to the newest (2.8). you may want to try both internal resolutions at 1, see if that does anything. make sure your laptop is plugged in and/or all its powersaving features are off.
