strange that it plays like crap on a 6800GT. using the above settings on my old 5600 it ran pretty sweet, at least at the beginning of the game when i tested it.

Yeah, but with those settings, don't you get a slow down to around 40 fps during world map battle transitions, and they look black with some rainbow streaks, in other words, damn ugly. Still not perfect, like FF7 or FF9.

Could you post a memcard with a save on the field? I don't feel like playing until i reach the world map, and i'd like to test muy configs. They work flawlessly with pretty much everything, and never noticed a problem with FF8.

hmm i get the exact same problems as DutchMasta, plus other problems now unrelated to FF8. ill make a thread about that. perhaps it's just a Nvidia thing? 40 fps on the transitions and ugly to boot.

Damn, that is lazy.....but I suppose getting from the start to world map is a bit of a mission.

I'm not sure, but the *only* way to get the transition to look perfect (damn slow), is like I said before, to set Framebuffer Effects to 2. If we can find a config to get it to work on 3, then it should be ok, 0 and 1, no chance, and on 2, only way to not have a slow-down is to sacrifice a lot of graphics.

I uploaded the savestate, on world map. About 1.5mb, NTSC version. Hope it's the right one

Slowdowns with 6800GT?? I never get slowdowns with my 9800 pro?!?
With 1/3/1 I also get that balck battle-transition on the world map.
I think I fixed the problem with 1/2/2.. YAY! Ugly batte transition, begone!!
I manage 70 fps with this setting when it comes to the transition...

i far prefer 1/3/1 over 1/2/2.

1/2/2:

-tiny pauses when switching levels or entering battles, basically switching everything(yes i made an ISO to limit bottleneck)
-perfect looking battle swirls, at about 35-50 fps

1/3/1:

-no pauses, game runs smoothly
-ugly messed up battle swirls at about 35-50 fps

so if i had to pick, i'd pick the smoother running game with ugly swirls.

interestingly enough, the problems that i had at the beginning of this thread have completely gone away. weird. guess it's the power of the 6800

Yeah, I get those pauses too. I doubt it, but maybe it could be my piece of junk P4 2.4 ghz CPU. Damnit Maister, why don't you get these slowdowns?? Are you using real crap settings, besides 1/2/2. Bleh, I'm going out

Heyho!

Playing FF8 PAL too on ePSXe. It's really a great game.

I prefer 1/2/0. Why?
I wanted to see that battle swirl
And why Framebuffer Uploads to 0? At 1 or 2 I got a strange flickering at the lower right border in battles, where the health bar is located. Anyone else got this?

Is there a way to get past that flickering on some places? Like when running over the bridge at the SeeD Exam?

When I'm back at home I will post how fast the battle swirl is.
Hasn't looked for it yet.

@hushypushy
U got an GF6800gt too? Can u play on very high x?
Well, strangely I can't put it on very high. Screen stays black at the beginning if i do so.

He's got 6800, I got 6800GT, but no probs with v high x. I don't think he has any probs either. You updated to newest drivers? Did you overclock it/set extra pipe lines or whatever? I think hushypushy had the same/similar prob, he should know the solution.

Also, yeah, I do get that same prob, forgot to mention that FU needs to be 0. Still damn slow though, well, still get the pauses in battle transitions/menus/etc.

my card isn't overclocked and there aren't any extra pipelines on a 6800GT. 16 pipes is normal.
drivers are forceware 70.90 which are more then beta . maybe i should try the official ones. which drivers are u using?

in 3 hours i'm @home again so i can experiment a bit.

oh, i'm still using older ones, 66.93, not that I'm worried about using betas, just that I can't be bothered to continuously update. I think there's a 71.50, maybe you can try that, or go back to 66.93, which is the newest on the nvidia site. yep, 16 pipes is right.

With FU set at 0, you get flickering at the dollet bridge? I've only tested at the v beginning of the game, so I can't say much about that, but could you explain more what you mean?

So you're using the PAL version and get the same probs? Strange that Pete said it plays fine (on his boards), maybe he didn't test world map battles, or didn't care much for it. Or has a super comp so he wouldn't notice.

ok very high x is working now. don't know why.

the flickering on dollet bridge appeared, shortly before leaving the screen to the left. nearly half of the left screen was flickering. when walking a bit to the right it disappeared. walking left again and flickering came up again.
that happened only at that place till now. will see if there are other places.

u know any shader config which is really looking good?
