Hushy, another place where that occurs is in Dollet, during the big SeeD operation. It's on the long bridge which I believe is before you get to the foutain where Seifer starts spouting random crap (he was level 61 by the time I got done with Dollet).

I can't quite remember, it's just the long bridge that you run across to the left, pretty much a panoramic shot, I hope you know where I'm talking about.

Anyway, back to more "testing" as I progress through the game.

hmm, im not sure what the fix is. it's one of those where you have to go "in between" the background, and it's improperly showing it. i honestly don't know :|

The black swirl on the world map happened to me too, I can't remember if it worked correctly in caves. I did try 1/3/1+fix a while back though.

a few things to say:

1. you might want to paste in Pete's configs (it has a copy to clipboard option) to make it easier to read.
2. i'm merging it with the "other" FF8/OGL2 thread
3. thanks for contributing

Perhaps a webpage worthy of Lord Kane should be up for all the RPG related OGL2 plugins...

Anyone else agree with me?

Has anyone tried this game with pete's directx plugin. I find most games run faster and better with it. Oh and I know that the psx has no z-buffer which is why you get "pixel dancing" but is there anyway around that in this game and others? With this plugin or any other plugin?

Oh..I forgot...I have shaders activated and post some screenshots for certain effects used. I think Razor Blade can do that huh? I cannot do it now...my 9600 is at my grandma's and I am going over this weekend.

Some of the shaders are yucky...especially the black and white one. Don use that...
I tried the full screen one and it drains my fps...I see what I can do this weekend. I go over to my grandma's and see which suits best for FF8. (Then we create a new post: Utimate OGL2 Settings for FF8 - Not suitable for **** computers)

With opengl2, I find the main problem is getting the damn battle transition to look fine. And the only thing that affects that is framebuffer effects. Set to 2, it looks fine, but there's a HUGE slow down, not only going into battles, but also into menus. Set to 0 or 1, no problems concerning speed, but it's not the perfect battle transition. Set to 3, no matter what the other settings are, always a black messed up transition. This ONLY happens in the world map. I tried fiddling around with other settings to remove the slow down, but it ends up looking like a pile of crap. I have a Geforce 6800 GT, and a P4 2.4GHz with 1 gig ram, so if you want to play it perfectly, I think an *amazing* comp is needed. BTW, you can decrease the slowdown time, but it sacrifices a LOT of graphics.

With OpenGL on the other hand, I've found some ok settings, doesn't look amazing, because alpha multipass has to be turned off, and causes some gay black borders, unless you turn off texture filtering, then it's all blocky, not too bad though. No slow-downs, black boxes around ATB bars, but the ATB bars flash a bit. Still NOT perfect though. Actually, pretty similar case to OGL2 then I guess...but looks slightly better+slightly quicker too.

I think we just need a special fix of some sort to be made. I read on Pete's boards that it works ok with the PAL version, but I, like most of you guys I'm guessing, am using the NTSC. I also requested that special fix, as well as addition of 960x720 and 1280x960 full screen resolutions and a drag-down preset menu which you can add to, and export/import.

I haven't read most of the other threads, so sorry if I wrote some useless crap that's already been posted, or something that is wrong.
