Hi, hushypushy. First, I really need to say that Your guide is great!!!. I can easily follow your guide and make some changes to suit my rig and the result is great too!!. I can play FFIX with a very nice FPS(except world map T_T) and good quality backgrounds and texts. But right now, I found some weird problem and really need your advice(plzzzz).
When I cast Grand Lethal (Zidane's trance command), it seems like some effect of Grand Lethal are missing and looking weird. But there's no freeze and no effect to FPS. This problem is also found when I cast some various spells too.(Such as Atomas, Slow, Silence, Demi, etc.) I'd like to know that is there anyway I can do to fix this or make it look better?

Here's my config :
Internal X : 1 (Super slow down if turn to 2)
Internal Y : 1 (Super slow down if turn to 2)
Stretching mode ; 3
Render Mode : 2

Texture Filtering : 0 (I also like natural style as you!!!!)
High-res Texture : 0 (Can turn to 1, but natural is better!!!!)
Use Pixel shader : turn on

FPS limit : on
Auto detect FPS limit
Frame skipping : turn off

Off-Screen drawing : 0 (turn 1, and my system will suffer a slow down)
Frame buffet effect : 2 (Grand Lethal and the other spells look nice when turn to 3, but will suffer a serious slow down)
Fram buffer upload : 1

Screen filtering : on
Shader effect : off (Can turn Full screen smooth with no slow down)

Misc settings, only MDEC turned on.

Seems like you need to update your drivers--your graphics card is definitely good enough. Your Celeron is crappy but it should work. You're missing some effects because the most important part of the settings (Off-screen Drawing and Framebuffer Effects) are wrong

To alleviate slowdowns, you should:

1. Update graphics card drivers. (is that Nvidia 6200? Go to nvidia.com)
2. Turn off all background programs (especially programs that just sit in the tray)
3. Turn down the resolution.

By the way, Pete's plugins have a "copy to clipboard" option that makes it a lot easier to post/look at settings.

Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!! Your advice is very appreciated. I'll try out closing some tray programs. Maybe those antivirus just keep slow my Cely-Kun down
I'll report you back about the result once I've tried it out. (By the way, is the slow down issued on world map common? I've seen someone found this problem too)
**Yep you're right about my graphics card. It's GF6200 (NV44a). Anyway, I've also tried to update my driver to 168.somthing, but the slow down still keep annoying me.

Are you playing off CD? If so, make an ISO. What resolution are you playing at?

Thanks again for your advice.
I didn't play FFIX directly from my CD. I use alcohol 120% to make an image files and mount them on virtual drive. Anyway, after I tried out a bit more last night and made some tests, here're what I found.(I think this may help)

1. All spells effects look perfect if I turn Off-Screen drawing to 1 or turn Frame buffer effects to 2.(any settings alone will do it)

2. When I turn Off-Screen drawing to 1, my system will suffer a serious slow down only in battle mode.(Avg.FPS is only 35-40)
Even if I turn everything to off and 0(internal X and Y also to 0) and just make Off-Screen drawing to 1, the slowdown in battle mode is still keep annoying me. This problem also occurs with setting with Frame buffer effects turn to 2 alone too.

3. A serious slow down in world map is occur even with all setting turn to off and 0.

I think these infos might be useful to you.
****Thanks again!!!! Your guide is still Great!!!!!

I'll make this easy for you:

Does that do anything? It's nice that you're enthusiastic about me helping you and all that, but if you keep telling me what YOU think is helpful rather than what I think is helpful, we're not gonna get anything done.

Ok sooo that means that something else is majorly wrong, it really is nothing to do with your framebuffer settings or anything.

I think your CPU is just choking to death on this. When was the last time you reformatted? Are you running a lot of programs in the background? (turn em off!) If this keeps going would you mind making your own thread?

Hmmmm........I see. So, maybe it's just because my Cely-Kun is REALLY too weak for OpenGL 2........ (I've already fomatted my HDD before going to this thread)
Thanks again. Your help is really much appreciated to me.

Hi all. I was reading this excellent guide and configured my settings based on this guide. Everything looks and runs great, except in battle there is no menu. Anyone know how to resolve this? Here is a screenie.

Nice shot
Try to mess with framebuffer effects, framebuffer updates... stuff, ingame, using the menu.
Maybe should you post your plugin settings to help.

Talking

First of all i have to say this thread (and forum) was the best thing I've found in the web for some time

About a year ago i got some nostalgic feelings about playing FF and started playing it with the epsxe emulator. All was good until i got to the "now well known bug of the ePSXe 1.6 on the blimp scene". I thought it was some problem with my game or the emulator or something and ended giving up on playing..
Recently the same nostalgic feelings came back, and I wasn't going to give up this time! Luckly i ran into this forum and.. PROBLEM SOLVED! Oh the joy of playing FF9 again

But the game still wasn't running smooth enough so I searched the forum for good plugin configurations until I got to this thread...
After reading hushypushy and some other users configurations I saw ViperXtreme's screenshots and just couldn't believe how good they looked! I just had to try OGL2 plugin (until then i was using Pete's D3D).
And I have to say.. wow! the game now looks great!!

Once again i really have to thank hushypushy for making this thread and all the people that helped improve it.

p.s. When i get home I'll post my configuration and some screenies (is there any OGL2 FF9 screenshots thread?) .

EDIT

Thanks for this great guide, I'll most definitely use the others when I get around to playing those games.

I followed your set up almost to a "T" (Couple tweaks for my Dell M1710 video options being a 7900 512MB).

Anyway, I am playing the disc images of FF IX (in Mount Gulug now) on the 1.60 and had zero crashes/errors of any kind so far.

Again, great guide.

Great guide! But when i'm walking around in the "world" i'm getting slowdowns, seems to be around 17 fps according to fraps. And i have graphic glitches as shown on the picture.

When i'm walking around in towns and such, it's always 30 fps, should it be 30 or 60?

e2z take a look here. My recommendation is to use software plugin or try the D3D one.

Hello everyone.

I have a little problem with my FF IX game. When i actually start the game everything is working as intended, graphics are good etc. But the thing that i have problems with are the sound. It is speeded up in the intro and in the battles. I haven't really checked out if i got the same problem in the overworld (world map) or in the city(es) but i doubt it. I'm playing with ISO files.

I'm using the same settings as the first post in this thread.

My computer:

- Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2GHz
- RAM: 4gb
- Graphics Card: Gainward GeForce 8800GT 1GB
(If you need more info just scream )

Please help me.

Thanks.

I fixed it . I just needed to set the buffer in sound to 40.
