I guess this would be worth considering, I though of finally playing FF9 again, but the long unskippable passages are a showstopper. I can of course remove the framelimit with a few Keystrokes when using Pete`s kewl Plugins.. but Im asking for a bit more.
I imagine it like this: when a unskippable, boring Part shows up, I press the "Extreme Frameskipping" (tm) Button, it overrides the settings for Framelimiter and Frameskip as long as its pressed, after releasing it everything is back to the previous state. Basically what it should do is to remove the framelimit and just render every 5th( n-th ) Frame and maybe disabling Performance-killing Options. That way it would be useable for Computers that aint skyrocketing to 300+ FPS when the Framelimiter is off. |

A while ago linuzappz added something like that to the P.E.Op.S. soft gpu, you can even bind it to an hotkey for toggling it on/off.
Not an high prio for my hw/accel plugins, though... maybe somewhen when I get very bored (and I hardly every feel bored, I have to admit) |

Well, if I turn of the Framelimiter on my System at home it speeds up the Game 3-5 times. On my Notebook however it wont go much faster, if at all.
Enabling Frameskip will only skip Frames when the FPS is ditching below the required Framerate to keep the Game at its original Speed. Disabling the framlimiter only speedsup the game if the computer is fast enough to draw (alot) more frames. If the Computer is fast enough, you wont get more speed by enabling Frameskip, its simply never ditching below the 50 or 60 FPS. Thats why I meant to purposly render only each nth Frame, not to keep the gamespeed constant to the original as it is now, but accelerating it by quite a margin. PS. I have to admit I dint used the Soft-GPU for ages, I got spoiled by the HW-Acc ones. |

But that its not enough. The game should accelerate more like 10 times or have an option like the fast forward (1x-16x) of the dvd. The thing is why we have to wait and read all the stuff said in some games if it can get you to the place where you have to move the character again in 2 seconds? A little boost not depending on the hardware.

in the case of HW accel plugins, something like: press "x" key, and it does turn on frameskip and off frame limit press "x" key again, to come back to normal ^^ i think
