Benchmarking Framebuffer Access
Heya,
Not sure if everyone read, but Pete made this post earlier today, related to the results of the benchmarks he receieved: Quote:
Test: Xenogears Opening Scene Configuration: See attached file. For this test, I made a savestate of Xenogears right before the "Burning Village" scene in the opening. I'd let it run for 10-20s, and write down the average FPS. I did this for two resolutions (1024x768 and 640x840), two texture settings (8-8-8-8 and Don't Care), and two color depths (16-Bit and 32-Bit). I'd also make a test in the most demanding settings with Full VRAM Primitives for the sake of comparision. Well, here's the results: Code:

From what I read of the test description, that behavior is expected. And what I really want to know is the actual speed of framebuffer effects in the game. If you have Xenogears can you see how fast the opening scene performs with the settings I posted? []s Badaro

Guys, thanks for you help, but I think I need to make myself clear. What I want is not the results for Pete's bench application. I want to know the actual FPS you get on ePSXe in situations where you need Framebuffer Access, such as the opening scene in Xenogears or the battle transitions in FF9.

Is this only happening in Xenogears or is it with ALL framebuffer effects in all PSX games? Bear in mind that Xenogears was during the earlier days of the PSX, and the coders just may have really horribly implemented the FB code in the game.
Try something like Chrono Cross on a New Game+ (which will show the extra FB effects during battle) and see what the deal is. I also suggest you see how well the card performs when on the Zelgadiss (with the FB sea as a background) and when during the Masamune/Burning house scenes. |
