I did use windows 95, but with my crapy HP (You all know that HP sucks right, lots of errors, like the ones iMesh gives you) i got too many errors running Windows 95, and I had to recover every 2-3 months or so. i don't own a copy of Windows 98. Ever science I put Windows ME on my HP, I haven't gotten any errors. I have had ME on for 6-7 month's or so, and I havent needed to recover yet. So thats why I use ME. Aldo's SpeedUp Processes (Thanks Man) Is telling me that even 50-90 percent of my ram is being used. I used to only have 32 megs running on windows ME. I use SpeedUp Processes all the time to clear my ram, but it doesn't speed up my computer or Emulation.

Well, there isn't much you can do with a slow cpu.
You can tweak windows as much as you want, but it isn't going to do you much good at this point. Either you upgrade, or you have to be content with where you are at. Also you very underpowered, have a voodoo3 2000 on a p200, you need at least a pentium 2 class computer to take advantage of it; otherwise your going to be stuck with voodoo 1 performance. |

I don t think so liquid.
The voodoos don t need to be w/ a powerful cpu unless the tnt for example... Upgrade w/ a more powerful doesn t necessarily mean that the voodoo could be more advantaged. There will be a slight difference that s all... That s why the voodoo are great cards for low end computers... (Still, i m not talking about the voodoo 4 & 5) Bye |

How do you tweak windows... If this doesn't work, I am going to beg my mom for an upgraded machine.

My soundcard is not onboard, but my old ATI video card is. I disabled it when i put in my voodoo through System in the Control Panel. My soundcard is a Crystal SoundFusion.

This is a reply to rargh,
Yes, it does matter, even for a voodoo card. If you look back into sharkyextreme's archive around 1998 it was mentioned several times that voodoo2 performed poorly on pentium 1's, and that it scaled better on pentium 2 systems. Considering that the Voodoo3 is the next step up, it would follow same logic. Also, I used to own a voodoo2 card, on a pentium II-266 for years coupled with a TNT-1 card. So I know first hand how well it performs on pentium 2 system. However now I gave that card to my friend who has a P200 and guess what? the performance is horribly bad,it's about equal to a voodoo1. Since the CPU isn't fast enough to communicate to the card. Hence the card is constantly waiting for data from the CPU. The opposite scenerio happens with faster CPUs, they maxes out its theroitical Fill rate limit, and the CPU has to wait on the graphic card. This is what is happening now with the Geforce 2 MXs. This is why it is critical that you couple a graphic card that has a high Fill-rate to a CPU that can keep up with. This gives the graphic plenty of head room for scaling on faster systems. (the down side to this is poor performance on slower systems) it's not the cards fault, but the system it's running on. By your assumption, his graphic card should make his games run faster but its not. Granted Voodoo cards perform well on low end systems, but there is a limit. Even a Voodoo card will face that. here is a little chart of CPU to Video card ratios you can refer to. voodoo1's maxed out their performance around 233Mhz voodoo2's required at least a 233Mhz Pentium 2 or better, and maxed out their performance around 400Mhz. voodoo3's required at least 300Mhz or better, and maxed out around 500-600Mhz. Voodoo4&5's are more powefull, but you should have around 400Mhz or better to make it shine. Last edited by liquid; July 16th, 2001 at 04:25. |

Yah, that is pretty interesting stuff, that I did not know about the voodoo cards.
