Looney Toon Racing

(yeah another mediocre racer, I know ). I would like to hear if someone has encountered the same problems with this game as I have. Note: the problems have existed forever, with various combinations of gfx card drivers and plugin revisions, so the problems should lie not with them but with the plugin(s). My gfx card is a Geforce 2.

First the bad news:
Pete's OGL/D3D: Lots (and I mean lots) of missing screens, flickering intro movie, despite the highest OD settings and a problem with the Alpha Multipass option (messes up written stuff) but the weirdest thing is the near-freeze at the loading screen. It takes well up to 15 secs on my P3 500 for the progress bar to start moving past 50% and meanwhile locks up my whole system so that even the plugin menu becomes inaccessible . The D3D version fairs slightly better, though not much.

Now the good news: None of the above mentioned problems occur with the PEOPS plugin. Movies and the menu graphics are excellent, the level loading takes 3 secs and everything in general looks great, BUT (and this is my only issue, otherwise I'd be using this plugin only) of course the gfx in-game can't keep up with the hardware accelerated version.
If someone else can confirm these issues maybe Pete will take a look into this.

Problem is, sending a save-state is impractical (I think) due to the game's accessing the disk at the loading screen (who would've thought ) If that doesn't matter, though, I could send a save state, otherwise someone should send Pete the game (I'd volunteer).

Thanks,

I have this game (PAL version) and only problem what i had is that when game loading, then there was some flickering, but no missing stuffs or long load.
That was tested on AMD XP 1800+ Microstar GF4 Ti 4200 card, Pete 1.64 plugins.

OK, thanks. Just one more question: what were your plugin settings at the time?

I still can't get it to work properly regardless of OD/FT settings. Maybe it's just the superior horsepower of your CPU that makes it less noticable, though.

Anyway, I kinda found a way to fix the flickering in the intro movie: OD maxed and under Game Fixes check "swap front/back detection".

These are my settings (little tuned down)

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.66
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: GeForce2 MX/AGP/SSE

Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Fullscreen - Desktop changing [16 Bit]
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off

Textures:
- Default
- Filtering: 0
- Hi-Res textures: off
- Palettized tex windows: on
- Garbage collection: on
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: 50

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 4
- Framebuffer texture: 2
- Framebuffer access: 3
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: off
- Advanced blending: on

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: off
- Screen cushion: off
- Game fixes: off [00000008]

Here's an example pic... after about 10 second (it takes 30-45 to load fully)- speed is horrible and the background is missing too). Again these problems do not exist with PEOPS.

hmm i played it only once, maybe i forget what plugin i used, some loading screens are hard to emulate in 3d accelerated plugin, thats what Pete says me,but in software plugin it easier to do.But when race starts, its fine, loading is slow, right, maybe you should report this problem to Pete.
