Lightbulb B&W GPU feature

I was reviewing all PSX GPU's and no one has a black and white output mode, I mean you can't see the game in B&W, wouldn't it be possible GPU authors to add such a feature/option?. In addition a contrast/brightness controls. I'd like to see some games in B&W specially the MDECs and how much impact this may have on the gameplay. Some B&W photos look better than in color, this makes them look more impressive. How about this in a game?

What do you think, Pete?, Lewpy?, E}I{?, Nikk?, everyone?

Maybe it's possible but I think it will consume a lot of CPU power. If I want a B&W, I better change my monitor configuration.

Why not just set your monitor colors to "black" and "White".. Then everything will be B&W..

As for the contrast thing... Petes d3d gpu has an option for brightness control..

OK, I'd like that the ePSXe team consider adding such option like those other emus like PCSX, FPSE and Psinex

MDEC in emu core can easily output B&W(easier than color ). It is harder for plugin though. I'll do it, but it will cost speed. But you'll owe me some compatibility reports

alright E}I{ I'll do my best, how difficult would be to have a B&W option via GPU or emu core so the game can be seen completely in B&W? just asking.

If I want B&W, I mind of well watch some old 60's disco show.

But if you do want it. Just invert the dark colors to black, and the light colors to white

It ca not be done in emu core.Only MDEC video.
For GPU this means that i must do color conversion when picture is sent to screen. I think speed drop will be 5-15% of normal plugin performance. It is not very hard for me to write another one MMX color conversion routine(as i have many on them). Will take some time though. Some optimization work to save several CPU cycles per pixel...

It doesn’t look like anyone else has asked this question directly, so...

Why?

From my narrow perspective, it seems like games designed in color will tend to look better in color.

But I suppose this could be nice for people with 8 bit video.

Who would use an ISA card in *any* machine? Can you even get ISA cards these days?

I still have one or two somewhere. Some of them were fast enough for good FPS in 640x480x256. I also still use ISA AWE32/8Mb and proud of it

NextSoft supports an 8-bit grey scale video mode if that helps.
