Greetings,
I was informed by the ePSXe FAQ that I download from this site of difficulties in the XA emulation in Megaman X4 and X5. It suggested that the problem be corrected by activating the emulator with the -noseekinxa switch. I selected the ePSXe sound core and attempted this, only to be met with a noise vaguely reminscent of an army of motorcycle having major muffler problems. I then tried Pete's DirectSound, but it just kept skipping. Eternal SPU just plain didn't work. I finally reverted to the old Pete's Midas, but while it did play the music beautifully (if an 8000 sampling rate can be called beautiful), the music kept jumping back on itself randomly. What have I done wrong? The game itself runs admirably, considering it's on a P233 (about 45 to 50 fps). On a separate note, Megaman 8 has an entirely different problem. The music in it works beautifully, but the game itself works absurdly slow. It took me over twenty minutes to get halfway through Clownman stage... and not because I was dying. Yet it has less onscreen action the X4, which runs (relatively) fine. Please, someone HELP!!! (sorry about the shouting.) Most Sincerely,

System Configuration
In response to Rhombus' query:
System config: K6 233 MMX 32 Megs SGRAM ATI Rage2 PCI Plugin configuration: Pete's Soft Driver 1.49 (I wanted to use the newer version, but for some reason ePSXe would never register it) Pete's MIDAS Audio Driver 1.7 (I'm using this one because it is the only one which allows me to set the sampling rate low so that the game will actually run on my slooooow PC.) 8000 mixrate 8 bit mono no filtering normal mixmode quality DirectSound enabled XA playing enabled Old SPU Interface disabled Both new SPU Interface Settings enabled Pitch changes while playing sample enabled ePSXe Internal CDR Plugin Thank you for your time and consideration,

Ah. Sorry but basically your machine is too old. You may be a performance boost by disabling sound, however it won't be perfect.

This is one case where bleem! will give better results than ePSXe. On my old system (which was indeed a 233mhz), I got good performance in both frame rate and music.
Oh yeah, and as a last ditch effort, have you tried the frame skipping option? And, I suggest you use the prodigy SPU. Compared to the other plugins, it'll be considerably faster. I've attached it here.
