Unhappy Final Fantasy Vii Movement Problem

THE PROBLEM IS IN THE MOVEMENT RESPONSIVENESS OF MY CHARACTER!

e.g. say i move my character forward for a few seconds then turn right on the directional buttons, the character will continue forward for a while then turn right. or if i'm in the middle of a battle, i move the cursor down once - it doesnt move, i press it again and it moves down twice. it doesnt sound like much and they are only examples but, when your actually playing it is VERY frustrating.

I am currently using epsxe v1.7.0 and i have tried many different plugins and have experimented a lot with the setup but i cant seem to fix it. the frame rate is fine there is very little lag and i can get the game to look ok but the movement is really ruining an amazing game for me.

ANY HELP OR IDEAS WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED AS I DONT REALLY UNDERSTAND ALL THE TECHNICAL MUMBO JUMBO LOL.

what does the task manager list as epsxe's priority level? is it above or below normal? you can view this by right clicking the epsxe.exe in the "processes" tab and then hovering the mouse cursor over the "set priority" option. and what are you using as the input device, a controller?

jonc2006, thanks for the advice but it didnt seem to work, im not using a controller. im simply using my laptop.

i tried the same game on the emulator "PSX" and it worked fine, i was really shocked, it doesnt look as sharp however it does run very smooth and the sound was much better.

set epsxe.exe, explorer.exe, (and if you have them, fraps.exe, taskswitch.exe, atitray.exe) to above normal priority. this usually fixes keyboard lag.

i tried it after playing on PSX for a while and it worked! the game looks brilliant so i was playin it on epsxe instead thanks to your advice, then i was messin with the video config just out of interest then when i went to play the game the keyboard lag was worse than ever! so i restored the video config to the way i had it before and its just as bad! i dont know whats goin on but im ready to through the laptop out the window.

after playin it on psx then having it work on epsxe, i dont want to have to play it on psx again if i can help it.

do you get keyboard lag in emulators for other consoles (n64,snes, gba, etc.) or normal pc games that you use the keyboard as the input device? what is the priority level for either psx or epsxe set to right now?

to be honest i dont really use my laptop for emulators that much, i only use it for the ps1 and gba.
there is no lag on the gba emu.
any pc games i have played, worked fine.
psx emu works fine. (but looks crap)
origionally the priority level was set to normal. i then set it to above normal and it did work for a while.

psx looks like that because it is intended to recreate the way the game would look on a real ps1, it doesnt do any of the visual enhancement stuff epsxe and its plugins are capable of. some people prefer this look and some dont so its not really a question of one emulator being superior to the other. the reason i suggested psx before is partly because of that and also because it is much easier to set up due to the lack of a plugin system (in some cases when you take the plugin system out of the picture it makes troubleshooting easier).

anyway, when you set it above normal did it work fine all the way through your time on the emulator or did it stop while in use? what i mean is, did you raise the priority level higher, then did you either exit out of the emulator or reboot your system only to find it not working again? usually the priority level for any application is reset when something like that is done but there are ways to make the adjustment stick.

thank you for your advice, i did realise that the priority level reset, it reset when you close epsxe.

when i first tried your advice it didnt work but i didnt set the priority level for explorer.exe above normal either, when i did, it worked fine, i was playin the game with no lag whatsoever, then i took a break, turned the laptop off, turned it back on later, put the priority levels back to "above normal" then started to mess with the config, the lag came back, i restored the config to the way it was and the lag stayed.

grrrr. i could play it on psx but it looks so GOOD on epsxe! with all these next gen consoles i need sumtin pretty to look at! don't get me wrong i love the game.

you are using a laptop? do you have any sort mode that manipulates the power saving/consumption methods the laptop can do in order to eiither maximize performance or maximum power saving? if you have it favoring power saving at the cost of overall performance the you should try and change it so performance dominant.

what kind of cpu are you using, single or multi-core? and is this lag present in every game or is it just this one?
