XA sound issues, dear God!
Hey everyone, it would appear that I'm new here, but in fact, I've been here for years...and I've never registered and posted/replied. So to many of you, thank you for your extensive help.
Anyway..I've recently switched to pSX from ePSXe tonight after a long time working dilligently with the plug-in format. Initially, it was amazing, considering the faithful rendering of PSX graphics, but then I noticed consistent skipping during XA sound specifically. All other sounds (in-game, BIOS boot-up) are flawless. I've made incremental adjustments to the XA latency without any results, as well as updated my drivers. Turned Reverb, sync, and interpolation off with little outcome, as if I expected any. I have tested Metal Gear Solid in ALL formats including my original copy. I have tried all of the various formats and I have tried multiple .CCD/.IMG/.SUB games, which the majority of my games are backed up in. So that certainly isn't the issue. I've also cancelled numerous processes as well, though like I said, my specs are entirely acceptable for PSX emulation. Help would be great, because I'm tired of ePSXe, and I can't stand the lack of fluid XA audio, given the games that I tend to play. Problem solved. MsMpEng.exe was a running process which I haven't entirely disabled. Sound issues alleviated when process tree is terminated. The douchebag. For future reference, get rid of Windows Defender (which is what that is, sometimes part of the OneCare package), and get something else. If you do have something else already, you shouldn't have them both at the same time, and you'll want to get rid of the Windows crap.
The problem is... the program unreasonably sucks up a ton of resources. You'll find that things will run a lot smoother (and faster) with that thing gone forever.

Ghu, who'd use an application with a name like OneCare - or is that an English thing?
Edit: BTW, when you do have issues like this with sound skipping etc, Yourchaosisntme, it's often a good idea to try playing from the original CD. That way, you know you've got the correct CD structure, at least. It's also a good idea to post your machine specs with enquiries like this: they're often very relevant. Thanks guys. Windows Defender was the major culprit, and it seems that this is also an issue with the screen maximized using the tab on the top right of the window, even with Windows Defender removed. That isn't a major issue though, because using the command ALT+ENTER bring it to full screen without any detrimental effects to sound quality. Weird.

Yeah, maximized is usually not used by most people. I prefer the window sized to 800x600 (my desktop is 1024x768), using Ultima's pSX Frontend. Or fullscreen. I use fullscreen when I'm simply playing/enjoying a game, and windowed mode when I'm working on or testing CEP for some reason or another.
