UFO Enemy Unknown
This is the one and only game I`ve had any problems whatsoever with, with this emulator. The sound works fine, but your choice selections in some parts in the game doesn`t show (as in the boxes dont highlight so you`ll have no idea of which box you just selected).
Anyone know of how to fix this? The game runs fine in epsxe but theres sound looping issues with it there which gives me headaches after a while.

But really why bother playing it, when you can play its sequel on computer which is superior and run it on xp and it's less demanding hardwarewise?\
Pick it up off of ebay for $10

How are you playing the game, hockland, from the original CD or from an image - and, if an image, what format?
What version is your game - game ID is the ideal identifier? @PCXL-Fan: I don't know this game, but it must be pretty old if it uses less resources than pSX? Not to mention that both of you run systems on which this issue is quite meaningless... Edit: have you tried the -r switch, hockland? |

PCXL-Fan: I`ve got the pc version also, which I agree is superior definately. But theres also clear differences between the pc version and ps1 version. Mostly in the way of music and movies in the ps1 version. I`d been meaning to have a play of this for some time to see the differences between both versions.
The movies and music are definately better in the ps1 version. While the controls are MUCH better in the pc version. patrickp: I`m running the game from an iso.

Ah. might well be a good idea to re-rip your game to a better format, hockland - the best formats are CloneCD's .ccd/.img/.sub and Alcohol's .mdf/.mds ones, as they have descriptor files and include subcode from the CD.
.bin/.cue will usually work Ok with games that don't have subcode issues (i.e. are not protected), but even so, I always found the .img format used to work better than .bin even with ePSXe, which doesn't read subcode directly or read descriptor files. The .iso format, unfortunately, neither includes subcode nor has a descriptor file. The descriptor file (the .cue, .ccd and .mds ones) contains information about the image: its format and the positioning of tracks. This enables an application that uses descriptor files to read the image more effectively. When using a format that has a descriptor file (in pSX) you should always start the game by selecting the descriptor file rather than the image itself. Alcohol does a free version of its 52% application that allows ripping but not burning. |

Ok I did just that (made a .img version) and the same thing. Selected boxes not highlighting.
I should point out as I mentioned earlier, that I dont have that issue under epsxe. But under epsxe I get looping sound effects which you can only tolerate for a certain amount of time before you start getting headaches. Psx is my preferance as the sound quality, compatibility + ease of use is BY FAR the best in that emulator. So if I can get that little thing working I`ll be right as rain. First game I`ve ever ran into any issues with.

There's a thread on the official pSX forums about this same problem, hockland, so it looks like it may be a compatibility problem. You could go over there and add your contribution; it'll help to keep the issue flagged.
