Currently, pSX does not support any steering wheels.

Doesn't a steering wheel work the same as a regular controller? Why would it matter about the emulator?

as far as i know, a PSX/ps2 steering wheel works since it works like a normal controller (has done in the past with my PSX-USB adapter at least)

Well... I considered that. For the most part, it should work fine. But how would the emulator read the rotation of the wheel itself? Can the wheel be set to act like the left analog stick? There'd be no way to read up and down for the analog stick settings, but I suppose that really wouldn't matter in a racing game, would it?

And it really doesn't matter in GT2, the only time you can use analog is in a race. You are forced to use the dpad for menus, etc.

that's how my PSX-USB drivers read it AFAIK. so if i turned it left it would read analog 1 left

while I'm guessing it'll work fine, isn't the amount of wheel turn a bit low for a wheel when the analog angle is set for a pad?

Samor, that's correct.

The best way to play GT2 in an emulator is to use PSXeven with the pad gnneco plugin. The gnneco plugin emulates the Negcon controller allowing the full rotation of the PC steering wheel to be used for the game.
