Pleeeeeeeease close the emulator and go play it on ZSNES, SNES9x, or BSNES! The PSX version is crap! And actually, IIRC, the CT ROM is on that disc, you just gotta take it off and load it in a SNES emulator. I don't know how to do that, hopefully someone will come along who does...

I just took it as CT because that's what the title says and that was his first thought (or so I assumed). Further adding to the confusion, he says he's using pSX...but also Pete's OpenGL. So we'll wait and see....

Based on his error report, I'm willing to bet that he's using ePSXe. No matter which game he's playing, neither have copy-protection issues that would cause it to not start, and if it was a problem with the emulator, pSX would throw some kind of error message, whereas ePSXe will just sit there uselessly, leaving you to wonder why the game isn't playing.

haha, gamesoul master, your bias against ePSXe is so funny, that reading your posts has made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Seriously, do you reread what you type? You'd almost think it's a political convention in here....you're really bitter towards ePSXe, eh?

@hushypushy: Yeah... me and ePSXe are not on the best of speaking terms. When I had my 1.0 GHz computer, it didn't like me very much. And depending on your plugins, you never know when changing a certain setting is gonna lock up the damn emulator. But, on my computer, it runs pretty well now. Just... it still has some sound and graphical problems that I don't like, even with the best plugins I could use for it (and believe me, I've tested them all). pSX does not have these problems with the games that I play. And I'm not big on enhancement over accuracy, but... for some people, ePSXe works better for them. So I can't really say that it's *horrible*... just not really worth my time. Not to mention, despite what people say... it's dead for all intents and purposes. I know the developers said a few months ago that they were still working on it, but... it's been way too long. Nothing has been released. It's dead, and pSX is right on its heels. By the next release or two... it'll surpass ePSXe. And you can see my love for pSX... just check me out on the official forums... what I've done my best to contribute to the users of pSX, in terms of troubleshooting, testing... even a frontend for it, which then inspired Ultima to create a much better frontend. I love pSX.
Between Anthology and Chronicles, I know at least one of the games had the actual ROM on the disc. I think it was FFIV... but if I recall correctly, it has the extension .bin instead of .smc... just rename it to .smc, and it'll work just fine. But... I think the ROM is in japanese, with the translation file separate from the ROM. Once I can find my Anthology and Chronicles discs... I'll let you know.

I'm pretty sure it was CT that had the ROM on it.
And ePSXe will never be surpassed by pSX, because that doesn't make any sense. They are on completely different tracks. I've said this a million times before but people don't get it, I guess. They are completely different. pSX is all integrated while ePSXe uses plugins. A valid point is that pSX has passed Bleem or VGS, because both of those are similar to pSX in that they don't use plugins. But comparing ePSXe to pSX is futile.

@hushypushy: A comparison is completely valid, as it is compatibility and speed that are being compared. You could even do a game-by-game comparison, using the best plugins in ePSXe for that particular game vs pSX. Different means does not mean that the end result cannot be compared. You're saying the equivalent of not being able to compare the speed of a quick sort and a selection sort, because they use two completely different means to sort a list. But you can, because only the end result is relevant to the user. At best, ePSXe's use of plugins merely complicates the comparison, but there is certainly no reason that the two can't be compared. Both have the same basic goal: to emulate the Playstation as well as possible. It's just that ePSXe uses plugins to help achieve this, as well as enhance the player's gaming experience with filters and alternative methods of specific emulation. But anything with a common goal can be compared on any point that relates to that goal.
I had no intention of starting anything with what I said... I even went so far as to admit that ePSXe is the better emulator for some people. Many of the things I said that you're arguing against... are things that are closer to fact than any opinion of mine. pSX is alive and kicking, and it's only going to get better. I would love to see further releases of ePSXe and its plugins... there are occasions where I have to switch to ePSXe to get past a certain point in a game. But those occasions almost never happen anymore. It's like I said before... ePSXe and pSX are both great emulators, and for many people, ePSXe is the way to go, as it offers some great enhancements. But for people like me, who prefer compatibility and accuracy, without enhancements bogging down the system, pSX is first choice. Basically, it's to each their own. Right now, the two are just about equal in such a way, that a person's decision of which emulator to use depends mainly on two things... which emulator plays *their* games better (as each one can play things perfectly that the other can't), and whether they want an enhanced gaming experience or a transparent gaming experience (transparent meaning giving the feeling of playing on the real hardware). Comparisons are helpful to people who have yet to make this decision, if nothing else.

Alright, I don't think we're gonna come to a conclusion on this because we are diametrically opposed on this matter, and it doesn't seem like we're gonna be changing our minds any time so....let's drop it
![]() I do see your point though; I just disagree with it. And being that it's a difference in opinions, there isn't much we can do to prove our own point.

Very true. I don't feel like starting some stupid argument because of our opposing opinions either.
Found my FFC, by the way. Indeed, the ROM *can't* be taken off of the FFIV disc, and it *can* be taken off the CT disc (as was already stated).

Yeah, weird, I wonder why they did it that way. I also wonder how they managed to let such a sloppy piece of crap out the door...I beat FF5 on PSX and it was TORTURE, PURE TORTURE, ugh.

True... out of the Anthology and Chronicles releases, FFIV was the only one worth any time at all. FFV already has a superior translation for the SNES, FFVI has horrible sound problems compared to the original SNES version, and CT with that loading time... pure horror. At least the cutscenes were pretty cool (though I just extracted them off the disc to keep... XD).

I agree with all of that. FF5 was torture because it was boring more thn anything though.
Anyway when you extract the ROM and play it from the CT disc its all in japanese and formatted incorrectly during conversations. Basically all the japanese text shoots in one straight line and doesn't stop until the text is complete for that window. So yeah its not the best idea to bother playing that unless you can read japanese, really, REALLY fast. |

Well I didn't mean to diss a game you really like but after playing FFT the options in character management were a bit too shallow for me.
Which would have been fine for me if AP was easier to get. I really can't sit and level up the way I could when I was 12 anymore. And the only part in the whole game I liked was the big bridge battle. By the way I reread the first post and it does definitely sound like hes playing CC on ePSXe because I have the exact same problem, and it just lags horrible on pSX. Never tried it with a downgraded ePSXe but hey if you guys say it works it probably does. |

Well, SNES RPGs are allllllllll about leveling up. So in that case, if you can't handle it, don't play them. That's why I like the PSX FF games immensely more, you spend a lot more time on the story and a lot less fighting repetitive battles.
