Question Name Selections in Chrono Cross (Black Screen Freeze)

Hello there, today while playing I encountered an issue with Chrono Cross. At the place where you first meet Kid and you get to select her name (At Howling Rock) the game freezes at the black screen and the audio begins to loop.

Any idea what could be causing this?
Using pSX 1.9.

Hello Tristenm and welcome to ngemu forums.
You should try another emulator like epsxe.
Read this too:Troubleshooting FAQ

I am using pSX currently due to the fact that it's the only emulator I can get to run any games. I will try to get ePSXe or another emulator to work somehow however.

Your configuration?
Coz with Epsxe you can run any games too....

And I've checked the compatibility list of pSX.

Chrono Cross SLUS_010.41 (2) 1.8-1.9 Freezes when transitioning into some screens, seems to be random as to when it happens
So I recommend you again to try another emu....

I'm guessing you mean configuration plugin wise?

BIOS: scph1001
Graphics: Pete's D3D Driver 1.76 (Have also tried Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.76)
Sound: Eternal SPU Plugin 1.50
CDROM: ePSXe CDR WNT/W2K Core 1.5.2

And thats for ePSXe.

If you mean any other configuration just ask.

No I was talking about your Pc config.Does Chrono walks with Epsxe? If not what problem do you have with?

Edit:If you use epsxe 1.6.0 you should switch to the 1.5.2 version as the game got issues with the latest version of the emu.

Well my PC config is as follows:
CPU: IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 CPU 1.70GHz @ 1695MHz
Motherboard: Compaq 077Ch mainboard (Yeah I know, dont laugh. )
RAM: 768.5MB,
GFX: NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200 (64MB), 1280x960x32, 85Hz
Soundcard: Creative, Soundblaster Live!

And referring to ePSXe and all other emulators aside from pSX I get a black screen at start.

As a sidenote I have tried using both ePSXe 1.6 and 1.5.2

Now that you mention it I have not, I shall try this and get back to you with the results.

Ok, I have just tried running using the Odd/Even Bit Hack with no results.

Hum I made a search on the forum about it;
Last thing to try:lauching the emu with the "-noauto" command line (I didn't noticed the sticky about the chrono cross game on the "problems with game section": About chrono cross ).
For the command line:
"-Noauto"

I do, i'll post them in about 2 hours when I can open them again, doing something at the moment.

Ok, on second look I do not get any errors. This is using ePSXe 1.5.2 with the ePSXeCuter frontend. (D3D GPU, Eternal SPU)

Run ePSXe 1.5.2 (without frontend) and go to File->Run BIOS.
Does it work?
If not are there any errors?

It *seems* to work running the BIOS, it comes to a blue screen with some selections but thats as far as it goes. (I can also select the different options and whatnot) There is some slight glitching with the little logo on start but aside from that there was no errors in the cmd-screen.
