PSX 1.7 Memory Card Issue

Howdy. I've already tried looking for answers in previous posts, but could not find any.
I just started using PSX emulators, and began playing Valkyrie Profile on v1.7. It works fine, except I can't save the game on a memory card, only in save states. I've made several cards in 1.7, but none of them are being read by the rom.
I've used other emulators, and they are able to save the game.
Any help here would be great.

Have you mounted the memorycards in options?

Mounted as in designating what slots they are?
If so, yes I have.

Yeah i meant that.
Does the game report any error?

You can try to save in other emulator and use that memorycard in pSX, then
verify if the card is being read (by opening the memorycard magager in BIOS)
and after that if the memorycard works try to play a game and save to memorycard.

Alright I'll try that...only problem is it runs extremely slow on other roms.

Ok, that worked. I saved on ePSXe first then used the same memory card in 1.7, and it worked fine.
