Valkyrie Profile - Chapter 8 - Freeze (just FYI, solution inside)

I've been playing slowly with PSX Emulator so far so good with v1.4 (I was playing VP starting with V1.2 had no problems till now) but on Chapter 8 is where I had my first problem. After you beat Gandar and when they are talking the game freezes! It was pretty easy to get around this I just saved it the game on memcard hop over on ePSXe v1.6 and replayed the battle against Gandar. Saved it and put it back into PSX Emulator's memcard folder. Works fine afterwards. Just the maker of PSX Emulator might want to know. I tried this more than once and it froze exactly when they're in conversation after beating Gandar in Chapter 8....other than that I had no other problems with VP so far. I'm in Jotunheim Palace ATM...I'll keep you updated if I have anymore problems. Keep up the good work =)

Note: You might want to take a look at this list as well...very nice of compatibility:

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I'm playing VP on pSX at the moment, but I'm still at chapter 6.

BTW, you tried the -r thingy, right?

With the -r in the command line right...ya. In the command line I read somewhere "psxfin.exe -r" should help skip some stuff. At times when VP freezes (I save it often) I would reset it and play with "psxfin.exe -r" this time...I did it both ways. Didn't go through. You would first hear them talk (Valkyrie and Gandar) then in the middle of their conversation Valkyrie would stop talking but text would still keep going and then freezes. I popped it on ePSXe they both kept talking and I was able to proceed. Only time I tried "-r" and it didn't seem to work. There was varies areas that happened before where you would have trouble but this is the first for me where it didn't seem to work.

Did you try another emulator ATM?
I suggest ePSXe, SSSPSX.

PSXeven also works. Of course, I'd recommend ePSXe myself. Seems to be the "best" emulator for the job, if you've got the right plugin.

Funny, I just beat Valkyrie Profile using pSX, and I haven't had any problems on chapter 8.

In fact, the game runs better on pSX than on EPSXE, 'cause the small pause that happens on some battles when using EPSXE won't happen on pSX.

Oh, and I used the -r command all the time when playing VP.

Sorry for the revival of this topic, but I got through this one by using ePSXe 1.5.0, with -nocdinc and -noauto parameters, disabling frame limiter prolly helped too... maybe I didn't need to change so much stuff, but I tried with 1.5.2 with and without paramters, no success.

This was a problem with the older version of pSX, the newer versions have no problems (that I know of) emulating Valkyrie Profile.

Valkyrie Profile does have some bugs. There were a few occasions where I had incidents of the Hrist and Brahms scene freezing due to voice errors. When I replayed the scene it worked without any complications. I think this is a bug within the game itself, not the emulator. Anyone else is free to comment if it's an emulator bug though (I've never experienced such a bug during that scene however).

How do you get your psX memory card onto ePSXe, and visversa? I've tried sticking them into the folders, it just doesn't work.
