PSX Emulator Suggestions

Great job. Many of us would use this emulator in our arcade cabinets if it had a few features.

1. a fullscreen commandline switch

2. ability to exit with the Escape key

Just my 2 cents,
John

well as for commandline switches, check this post, specifically the -f switch

Thanks for the prompt reply. Now we just need a way to exit with a single keystroke (preferably). FWIW, ALT-F4 doesn't seem to work in fullscreen OR windowed mode.

I would sugest more compatibility with the other emus memory card formats (vgs and epsxe especially). Or maybe an utility that would convert them to this emu's format

If you rename the memcards to .bin they will work.. so far tested with vgs and ePSXe

Yes, but I mean exit PSX Emulator completely. Most apps will do this using ALT-F4.

A good resolution would be the way Fusion, a Sega multi-emu, handles this. If it is launched from a commandline then the ESC key exits everything.

Just an idea,
John

ah, gotcha. yeah a lot of people are wanting to make emulation cabinets for their houses and stuff, which is cool, but not all the wanted features are available in emulators. i guess this emulator is good because it's pretty fresh and the emulator is around (unlike PSXeven or something....Xeven is lurking but he's pretty lazy ).

i must ask though....why would you want to use this emulator in an arcade cabinet? it uses a software renderer, meaning it looks the same as a real Playstation. if i was gonna play something that looked like a real playstation on a TV.....i'd just go to Gamestop and buy a Playstation for 20 dollars. the reason i emulate is because it improves the graphics and functionality (save states, infinite memory cards). to each his own, though.

Convenience mostly, an all in one unit. trying to have all the console is a pain to admin on a TV. My upright cabinet currently emulates 90 systems. Yes, I am an extremist. I have 8 250GB HD's of games.

Also, remember that some ppl don't care for "enhancing" the games. I for one use emulators to... uh... EMULATE the real hardwares!! I don't care for better graphics, I just wanna play the games! Remember, not everyone can just go and buy a real console.

Here where I live, for example, a PSONE (yeah, thats right! Not the PS2) costs about U$ 250. This is because the PS1 was never released here, so the ones we have where imported from USA!

Oh, and in case you are wondering, the PS2 costs about U$ 450 here!!

JCrouse: i understand, my point was more directed towards the fact that emulators with plugins can use HW acceleration which approves graphics...

before i reply, i have a question. why do you use so many exclamations? almost every single thing you ever write has an exclamation at the end of it. even your little location blurb has one. im not trying to be a jerk, i just want to know.

anyway, on to the point. i rarely use texture filtering or hi-res textures, but i think HW looks nice. 'course, you could just use Peops soft....i mean, im not knocking this emulator at all, it software emulates the PSX excellently. it's just that, IMO, people are overreacting. having excellent compatibility and original PSX graphics is not a new idea, folks. it's cool that it fixed some problems that people had, but some games are running exactly like they have for years (and people are still excited over it..). i just dont see the point.

you can still get cheap PSXs on eBay. just find someone who ships internationally. may i point out that since you don't own a PS1, you are legally not entitled to emulate the PSX (since you dont own a PSX from which to dump the BIOS). but that's nitpicky, nevermind that.

keep in mind, im just playing the devil's advocate--no need to get huffy. everyone should know that i, of all people, love PSX emulation. come on, i came to this forum in 2003 to get help running FF7 (like many other people), and nearly 14,000 posts later, i'm still here dealing with PSX emulation.

I don't know actually... Many ppl from other forums asked this already, and I don't know what to answer!!!! The guys at gamefaqs HATES when I do this, but it can't be helped!! Its stronger than me!

Actually, I wasn't talking about myself! I was just pointing out that PSX are not cheap everywhere! Also, I DO have a PSX, I bought one when I went to US last year! I love emulation, but nothing beats the real hardware, you know??

Also, here's a funny thing: the bios that I have I dumped it myself...

Hehehe, don't get me wrong, I didn't get huffy! I never get huffy with anyone, and in fact the only person here that ever made me huffy was... uh... I forgot the name... you know, that guy that hated remakes... (*edit) Well, someone that isn't even a member anymore!

*EDIT: KAISER SIGMA!! There, my memory returned!!!

But you should understand that some ppl just want to emulate something without any enhancements! Did you know that when I first came here I HATED EPSXE?? Now i like it, but I mostly use PEoPS plugin 'cause I hate 3d enhancements. Diferent ppl have diferent opinions!!!

But please, don't think I got mad at you!! I was just saying what I think, but I do't think I have a reason to get mad at you!

PS: I REALLY have to stop using sooo many exclamation points!! Is it really anoying??

Let's put it this way: Sometimes I help out a little on the PSX Emulation forums by providing answers or advice.

No more for you, though. Because of the exclamation points.

Have you considered that you might be denying yourself help from others as well?

The emu already have save states, just press Shift+F1 to save and F1 to load! I tested and it works, although you have to be in windows mode!! Its not as great as EPSXE's save states, but it does work.

Also, about the exclamation points, I don't get how can they be anoying. I mean, lots of ppl here type like *****, without using ANY pontuation, and I'm not complaining. Some ppl type using the l33t language, wich I hate, but I never complain. Some ppl don't even know how to speak english and I don't complain.

I just use lots of exclamations, why is it so bad??

Because exclamations are supposed to emphasize the most important parts of your writing. If you use them everywhere, then all you're really doing is attempting to emphasize your writing over that of others in the discussion.

It smacks of arrogance ("What I have to say is more important than what anyone else has to say") and immaturity ("I can irritate you, nyah nyah").

Well, if you say so!

I don't use exclamation points to be arrogant! Like I said, I don't even know why I use them, its just stronger than me.

I feel sad that some members on this page are just like this! Dude, accept the way I am! I'm not doing this to give emphasis to something I say! Gee, I don't even post that often on this page!

But if it makes you angry, just ask some admin to edit all my posts and remove all my exclamation points.

I think you are making a fool of yourself...and yes, it's silly to use exclamations when it's not necessary (it exists for a reason, you know...)

back to topic, i think the emulator is nice, but as hushypushy, i don't get all this hype...

Man, this page is just full of idiots. Making a big deal about exclamation points! You know? I've had it!

Starting now, I'm going to ignore everyone!! If someone here don't like the exclamation points... TOUGH!!! Just add me to your ignore list and you won't see my posts!

But see if you all understand this: I CAN'T HELP IT! I DON'T USE EXCLAMATION POINTS BECAUSE I WANT, ITS SOMETHING STRONGER THAN ME! MY FINGER JUST GO THERE, I CAN'T HELP IT! OK?
