I'm in a bit of a fix here....

Currently, I am conducting a "Let's Play" series on the game Final Fantasy VIII on Youtube. The emulator that I am using is psx 1.13.

(Final Fantasy VIII Spoilers)

At the Moon Base, after Rinoa's gone crazy and she leaves to deactivate Adel's Tomb, I then follow her and then we get a pretty long cutscene of the monsters flying down to earth. Once we're supposed to regain control of Squall, suddenly, nothing happens. The music isn't playing, and Squall cannot move at all. The NPCs are still moving, such as the astronauts out in space, and the red light is still flashing. I cannot even pause the game.

To let you know the precise location of my character freeze, it is in this area:

YouTube - Let's Play Final Fantasy 8:Part 117 (this is someone else's Let's Play series, not mine obviously)

1:45

No dialogue with that Crew Member saying "Tons of Monsters..!" pops up either, nor the new music that plays.

I can't transfer over to epsxe, because epsxe cannot load psx 1.13 memory cards. At the same time, some of my FF8 LP videos are already up on youtube and I do not want to remove them because of this one obstruction in my LP.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums!

There are a lot of memory card utilities floating around.

I think Our member Shendo has a really good one called Memory card rex or something like that.

Look for that, it will easily convert your save to another format. Be sure to backup first and try with another version of the same emulator, maybe you'll get some results.

Thanks for the quick replies.

What's a native save? A psv. save state?

And I'm not too good with the epsxe either. After I manually configure everything and I load the ff8 ISO, the whole screen just turns black, not to mention it automatically changes my desktop resolution to 800 x 600 for some weird reason.

native save is a memory card save, Save states cause the issue with eyes on me.

Okay, I got around my problem, but in a rather elaborate way...

I got my epsxe to work, but it was a rather weird emulator because every time it loaded a game, the emulator would go full screen and automatically make my computer desktop resolution become 800 x 600. Furthermore, I don't know if this is a problem with my plugins or graphics, but the epsxe played all of my games in fast forward mode. Oh well, at least it still worked.

I transferred my memory card over to my epsxe, and used the epsxe to play through the part of the game where my old psx emulator froze. Then I saved onto my memory card again, and transferred it back to my old emulator since I could not possibly record anything on this weird epsxe.

Btw, what is this issue with Eyes on Me?

eyes on me is the song, and the save states interfere with it loading.

I reported this same error to the pSX board a couple years ago. It's a bug with the emu. All you can do is play past it in another emu, like you did. Something to do with the game not carrying on properly after the Lunar Cry fmv. Last I checked, this issue was noted on the compatability list in the pSX forums.

Not a savetstate issue this time, I never use states and this was all tested up and down in my bug report thread "over there."

I'll add the confirmation that it's a bug on pSX (all versions) for the NTSC version of this game. It happens to be one of the most reported game issues to this day (up there with Valkyrie Profile save state issues and Legend of Dragoon various freezes). The problem is not 100% unpassable in pSX, but yes, best passed with a different emulator for quick results.
