weird input problem

I'm using pSX with my DualShock2 controller via a USB adapter. In the joypad config screen everything seems ok. I assigned the buttons and everything, that meaning the emulator recognises the controller.

But when the game starts, one of these two things happen:

1 - The controls don't work at all. This is totally random; sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

2 - Now the weird part. Even when the controls work, I can't skip the game's FMV intro as the joypad/keyboard won't respond at first. If the game's intro ends and it takes me to the menu, the controls start working perfectly. If the games loops the intro forever, it is impossible to play it. That makes sense doesn't it :/

Too bad I only have 3 games now, otherwise I could make some tests to see if this is consistent.

Any help much apreciated.


edit - now I see the problem has little to do with the controller/adapter, because when it doesn't work, the keyboard doesn't either. Anyway.
